Alittle over two and a half months post op. I’m having a hard time figuring out how often to eat, how much, and what my calorie intake should be. Right now I’m kinda just eating when I remember to and eating to get energy. I burn about 500-700 calories from cardio at the gym and I’m trying to go everyday.

I need some help and advice

I feel the same way. I will be at 3 months post op on January 10th and I really don't know how much to eat. Some days I feel like I don't care to eat much but seems like other days I am getting hungry. I just upped my Protein intake with Injury "flavorless" that I can put in my Water or sprinkle on food to get more protein in. I am walking 2 miles at least six days a week, so burning a little calories as well. I never received a number for how many calories and don't know if I should be tracking calories this early on. Going to email my nutrionist.

I try and do 3 meals and a snack. Do not snack all day. The sleeve restriction will only help you if you eat a couple of times a day. Otherwise you can squeeze in food all day and you're basically cheating yourself.

I would worry less about calories and more about whether you are hitting your Protein goals.

I emailed my nutrionist. I am three months out from GB surgery. She said if I don't eat at least 1,000-1,100 calories a day I will stop losing. I hate logging food but I will. I am definitely getting in anywhere from 70-90 grams of Protein in so that is good. I have just been at the same weight for 3 weeks, which I know happens throughout the weight loss process, which seems normal to me, your body is changing a lot.

I am only a few wks postop sleeve but asked my surgeon if I should worry about calories. He told me at this time not to worry about calories, but to follow the rules of 1/4 cup food 3 meals per day with no snacking. One of the meals could be a Protein Shake. He says by the time I would be out further like you, I would be eating about 1 cup of food per meal with the main focus on Protein and the amount of calories would be similar to yours. If you exercise hard, then you may need more calories, but you will be hungrier. We are suppose to have at least 60 grams of protein per day. Plus even at 9 months you shouldnt fret about your weight, your body will be changing in weight and size up to 18 months. I watch many videos by Dr Duc Vuong who is a bariatric surgeon that does informational videos on Facebook and youtube. I have learned a lot from him. You may want to check it out. I dont use my fitness pal because it always says you never eat enough calories. I use the baritastic app which is similar bu focuses more on the bariatric patient whethed you had the sleeve or bypass. Hope some of this info was helpful.

I am not post-op yet, but I researched this heavily since I am pretty concerned about it. I have years of calorie-counting under my belt but I am trying to find a more organic way to live my life, I find that calorie counting is too consuming and the point of me having a sleeve is to find time and energy for my hobbies. It seems like that the general consensus is this:

1) Limit snacking, liquid calories, meals that span hours (defeats the purpose of having a sleeve), and slider foods.

2) Eat your Proteins first and make hitting your Protein goal your priority. When you get a plate of food, finish the protein first.

Losing weight following those two simple rules is inevitable.

Your restriction in the first months is at its best. It can be a challenge to get 600 to 900 calories in. Dr's instructions are all different. Most don't worry about calories in the first months the focus is getting your Protein in.

I eat small meals every three hours. It was work getting in 1100 calories. I think I got there at 5 months.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
