Hello, I had my surgery 6 days ago. for the first few days I felt good but on day 5 and today I been craving real food (not liquids or Jello or popsicles) to the point where thats all I can think of. I know I had the surgery to control my eating and not my cravings but I been feeling hungry. I don't feel full and I am wondering is there something wrong. I can drink clear Protein Drinks, eat the jello or have the popsicle but my stomach does not feel full. I am doing my best to follow the diet but I am ready to make myself some eggs or maybe some fish. I feel weak and I am sleepy the entire day. what can I do??

I would follow your doctors orders. If that includes introducing those things 6 days post -op, then do it. If not, figure out something to occupy your hands and mind until it is time to eat those things. It seems like hell right now, but the rules are there for a reason and your protection. Not to mention, think of all you’ve done to get to where you are right now. Spending a few more days on the prescribed diet is nothing compared to what you accomplished prior to surgery! You got this! I wish you the best!

Are you getting all of your Water and Protein in? I have read many, many people say that you really don't feel full on Clear Liquids.

You need to stay strong and follow Drs orders though. The program is the way that it is to make sure your sleeve heals correctly. You would not want to eat anything that could rupture your staple line or otherwise harm your new sleeve.

Maybe you could call your dietician and ask what you may be able to have that would be more filling at this stage?

Hang in there and good luck!

What are your doctor's post op food orders for you?

I have to be on full liquids for 2 weeks following the surgery. That includes: Protein drinks, strained soups/broths (even strained cream soups--but not pureed soups), thinned down yogurt (pourable like kefir), Jello, popsicles, clear liquids, and if memory serves liquidy cream of wheat (but I may be making this part up--I just wouldn't do it cuz it would make me hungry).

Maybe you just "think" you're hungry and need to chew because you have a lot of acid churning? Are you on any kind of omeprazole or anything? As far as head hunger goes...binge watch a series on TV!! Go for hourly walks--outside if you can...get a huge calendar and mark off the days left on your liquid diet. If necessary, call and talk to your surgeon and see if they can give you any help?!! Hang in there!!!!

Do what your doctor says.....blah blah blah.....I dont care what ANYONE says, I was freaking starving at your stage (I was revised to the sleeve March 2017) Everyone said it was head hunger. Ok, sure. All I can say is that it SUCKS but dont skip steps in your program. Force down another disgusting shake and know that in a week or 2 you will THOROUGHLY enjoy some refried Beans or scrambled eggs or tunafish.....whatever is on your list. Stay strong because the hunger WILL go away or get reduced soon.....and then it comes back, but not like it used to feel. Just let the SUCK happen and it WILL be better.

Now this is real! It’s normal - at least it was for me! Those first few weeks were killer for me, and as many on here know and absolutely attacked me for sharing, I broke and had a bite of my kids pizza. It didn’t kill me, but it made me scared, even though I chewed it well up and was soft. Still, I admit I screwed up, didn’t deserve some of the aggressive bullying from some ppl for my honesty - but if something came out of it I can at least tell you the your cravings are normal.

It’s a really hard journey and life changing procedure. It will not change lifelong habits and thinking over night. Slipping up a few times, or just eating that one bite to many teaches you sometimes though, and you feel so bad you never want to do it again. The me 5 weeks post-op is not struggling the way I was at 2 weeks.

Tho, I will struggle next week as we’re going to an all-inclusive resort. - Wish me luck! You’ll get through it!

I've been sooooooo hungry too. I don't think it's head hunger at all. Those who say it is probably aren't hungry, or aren't having the same kind of hunger. For the weakness, I on occasion had 4 oz of 100% fruit juice (it's on my plan).

It's not unusual at all to not feel full with liquids. They go right through your sleeve, like everything up until soft/regular food pretty much will. I was sleeved on 12/7 and am just getting to soft/regular foods. I begged my nutritionist to let me go to regular food ahead of time, and while she couldn't advise it, she did say it was my choice at this point. I'd contact your office and let them know how much you're struggling and see what they say.

Personally, my advice is to hang in there. Unfortunately that's all I got. Keep drinking as much Water and other Fluid as you can to keep your stomach busy. It's hard, I know first hand. It sucks being hungry, but it gets better when you can eat regular food in a few weeks. Keep going!

I had hunger at first, but it faded after a couple weeks. Hang in there, if you eat the wrong thing you'll be in serious pain and very unhappy (I found out the hard way when advancing stages and not taking it slow)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
