Anyone from Connecticut?

I’m currently 4 months into my 6 month process for vsg. Started my nutrition classes in Oct, met with nutritionist one on one, went for my psych appointment, also was required to go to an exercise class as well as testing to make sure I didn’t have a hiatal hernia. Just like to hear about everyone’s process leading up to surgery. How long of a wait til approval and surgery date? Or how about any pre op diets? Not sure if or for how long before surgery I’d be required to be on liquids.< /p>

Hi! Im from CT and I am 3 months post op as of Jan 3.. I had my surgery October 3rd. My start weight before surgery was 283 lbs nd it took at least 3 weeks after my last appointment with my surgeon to get approved and get a surgery date.
That week I got approved I had to do the cleansing diet for a week 1/2.. It was tough in the beginning, not eating at all just liquids, but after the 4th-5th day it got easier. The preop diet, i was giving a list of what was allowed. Alot of chicken broth, and beef broth, I did the sugar free Jello, crystal lite, Soups that have less than 10grams of carbs. Day of surgery I weighed 266 lbs. today I am at 230 lbs. hope that helps! Good luck with everything!

Thanks so much girl. Which hospital did you go to if you don’t mind me asking. I’ll be going to Yale. I’m excited to start this new life but still very nervous. For your approval does the surgeons office call you with the approval? And did you get your surgery date over
The phone as well or were you at an office visit?

I am from Connecticut. I’m guessing because of my insurance my process is slightly longer (7 months of nutrition instead of 6). I go to my 3rd nutrition class this month and I also have to schedule my 3 month check in with my surgeon’s office as well as scheduling my psych eval I believe. Next month is my upper endoscopy, March is my cardiologist appointment. My surgeon is Dr Neil Floch of Fairfield Bariatrics and if approved my surgery will be at St Vincent’s. Best wishes!

Great job on the weight loss! Did you have the sleeve or the bypass if you don’t mind me asking?

So sorry for the late response.. I did mine at

Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford with Dr. John Pirrello. Excellent doctor!

Yes they will call you as soon as you get approved and will provide you with a surgery date. They will give u all the info you will need for the night before and day of surgery.

The liquid diet will be one week to a week 1/2 before your surgery. Hope this helps! Good luck with everything!

I’m going through Hartford Hospital. I just had my final weigh in after two support group meetings, a psychologist appointment, 4 nutrition appointments, an ekg with a cardiologist, blood work, and approval from my PCP. I had my initial consultation 4 months ago and I feel like this is honestly taking forever. I was told my insurance would take up to three weeks to hopefully approve and that I would get a call from the surgical group to schedule a pre-op appointment to get my surgery date which I was told would be 2-3 months from that approval call. I feel like that’s an excessive wait between approval and surgery. Besides the wait I had to not lose or gain anything because my initial BMI is 40. Trying to maintain the same weight for the past 4 months has been hard because all I want to do is lose already!

Wow, maintaining had to be hard. I’m doing mine through St Vincent’s hospital. 7 months of nutrition, cardiologist appointment, upper Endoscopy, sleep study, and psych evaluation but after the paperwork is submitted they said it take a week or 2 for approval and usually a scheduled surgery for a month after approval. Best wishes! You are almost at the finish line!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
