Surgery in 2 days

Recommended Posts

My surgery is in 2 days on 1/3. I’m freaking out! I’m second guessing myself and wondering if I’m making the right decision. I’m 6’5” 360 and I’ve been big football player my entire life. I’m afraid of losing too much weight too fast and excess skin. I was just talking to my wife and considering backing out. It’s been such a long process and I’d hate to do that. Any advice?

In my opinion you worked too hard to give up a couple days before surgery. You deserve this.

I happen to agree with Brittany Blue. My surgery is tomorrow morning first thing and I have been freaking out over the surgery, but today I'm at peace, From what I hear this is perfectly normal and the feeling of backing out does go away.

Maybe my surgical team did me a favor by making me the first patient tomorrow?

Think back to what motivated you to have the surgery in the first place. Don't you want a long healthy life with your wife? Sure you do. I've been worried about excess skin too but my Bariatric nurse said it doesn't happen to everyone. It may not happen to you.

This year is our year to shine! Keep your eyes on the prize at the end of the journey.

Early appointments are the best! I didnt get an early appointment so I had all day to think about it. But once the time came, it literally flew by. Happy new year to a new you!

I had doubts too. Then I made a list of all the pros and cons and compared them. Somehow writing it out made me able to view the decision more objectively rather than from a place of panic. Once I decided to do the surgery, I made a video just for myself. In it I spoke to my post op self reminding me why I did this. I also did a full body shot at the end. I’m a week post op now and the video has kept me strong and on track. I highly suggest it. Also, this surgery isn’t for everyone, so if you decide not to do it, there’s no shame in that either.

I was super freaked out a few weeks ago and had a few thoughts of not going through with the surgery. I had some of the same thoughts as you as I have always been a big guy, not tall like you, but big (5' 10", 325). I decided I would rather be too skinny than deal with being to large for plane seats, riding amusement park rides with my kids, being the biggest guy in the meetings at work, and the general health issues that come with obesity as I get older (40 is just around the corner). One huge motivating factor is thinking about being there for my kids growing up and being healthy enough to enjoy my grandkids to the fullest in my later years. I think a list like Lotte22 mentioned is a good idea to keep your goals in focus. I don't regret my surgery at this point, but I'm really early on just enjoying the scale going down for the first time in a decade.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
