is fear-mongering bullying?

I certainly thought so when people were telling me I was taking unnecessary risks with my life having the surgery.

I think the answer to that lies in the motivation. It can be. And it isn't necessarily a subset of bullying. We can unintentionally--based on wisdom and personal experience--fear monger out of position of "helpfulness." I honestly think the answer goes to "intent."

But that's not really the situation with the OP. The situation was that it was sooooooo soon after surgery. Your surgeon (unless you're in the UK or Europe) probably said at week 2-4 that you're only on puree or soft foods at that point. He says no alcohol for 8weeks-1 year or more post surgery. It isn't a question of moral pulchritude. It's an issue of physical healing. Will you injure your surgery? Will you bleed out in under 4 minutes because you drank alcohol and ate a slice of pizza (or chocolates), or overate?

So....anytime anyone admits to having a slip up.......the appropriate response is:

OMG YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!

I recognize nonsense when I see it.

You just want your bad behavior validated.

You're going to fail.

Because see...in my mind...that's bullying. The OP was being honest....and got punished for it. Even after she asked people not to punish her.

How the world dearly loves to humiliate a fat person.

Just sayin..

@Creekimp13 Absolutely disagree. It's a case of timing. Had the OP posted this same thread even 3-6 months post op, I suspect many would not have commented as they did. I know I wouldn't see it as a black and white empirical situation at that point. Your new anatomy has likely healed. From that standpoint it would be...well hell...if you're a big enough girl to play, then just be prepared to pay. :D (Like prayin to the porcelain god with a dumping event.) It's a completely separate and individual order of magnitude when it's 2-4 weeks post surgery. Then it's really is a potential life or death risk. After healing...the order of magnitude isn't life or death...it's more like "life or puke/****" :D .

Tell me Fluff....how did your belly treat you 2-4 weeks post surgery? What types of things went down very easy and what types of things caused you problems? How did you feel?

Oh wait...you haven't had surgery yet...

Just sayin.

PS...I do hope you get approval soon. You've worked really hard and deserve it.

I am not a vet. I'm pre-surgery--so you all may say that I've no business posting on this thread.

@Creekimp13 LOL! Yep. I hear ya and too true. I'm just using my surgeon's instructions as a hard fast rule for 2-4 weeks post surgery. I really shouldn't even be posting to this thread! :D

Bullying takes many forms. Fear mongering falls under psychological bullying or abuse. It's an attempt to control or coerce another person into a given action by making the person afraid to make other choices than the one you suggest. It doesn't matter what the abuser intended, the end doesn't justify the means.

So when our surgeons tell us not to do a, b and c as we might split our healing stomach. when they tell us not to forget to drink 68oz of Water per day we may I end up very ill and back in hospital they are just bullies? Glad you cleared that up 😄

Tsk tsk. You let your judgement cloud your thinking Kate. There's a difference between a medical professional explaining complications and a lay person dramatizing those complications.

Really? Are you 10? Do you know what a lay person is? I'd bet not given your interaction on this thread so far.

Yeah it's pretty silly that I had to explain the difference between what a physician says and what a common person (does that term make more sense?) says.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
