Changes in heart rate and blood pressure?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done in February and was immediately taken off my blood pressure medications after surgery. I haven't been on any medications (except my psychiatric meds) since then. I have a FitBit that tracks my heart rate and my resting heart rate is almost always below 55 BPM. Before surgery my resting heart rate was at least 70. I have confirmed several times that my FitBit is accurate. I use an at-home blood pressure cuff every so often and I find that when my heart rate is below 60 (which it often is), the bottom number on my blood pressure is always high. If I move around a bit to get my heart rate above 60, my blood pressure is then within the normal range. Today I did this and when my heart rate was 57 my blood pressure was 137/101. I did it a few minutes later with a heart rate of 63 and my blood pressure was 128/84. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I have a physical scheduled in January and I do plan on bringing this up during my appointment.

Bring it up to the doc for sure. 137/101 is too high. My group told me to phone if my BP went over 160 on top or 90 on the bottom. I had a couple days over 90 when I was first taken off my meds, and did half a BP pill for a while and it helped. Then my BP dropped again for a few days and I went off completely. Have not been back on since, and it's been steady high 120's over mid 80's. i'm happy with this.

But yeah, keeping track and keeping your team in the loop is the way to go for sure!

PS...my heart rate dropped significantly, too. i'd been on BP meds and a diuretic for over 20 years! No more:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
