At first people seem really happy for you that you are losing weight but then the smiles start looking less happy for you. I think that everyone is happy when someone goes from obese to slighly plump... when you go from plump to svelte it call their own weight into question.

This is a great thread.

I noticed that some of my friends enthusiasm for my weight loss is declining as I get closer to goal which makes me a little sad. It almost feels like it is ok to lose some, but becoming normal is too much of a change to find acceptable.

I haven't got a lot of skinny comments yet, but I am sure they will come if I keep working away at it. I would take that any day over "you have such a pretty face." :0)

I get this almost daily at work when people put out the plate of cookies/cake/fudge etc. and I walk by it. They comment on my "will power" and make off hand nasty comments about how that must be how I did it. The "stop losing weight or you'll disappear" comments come too and are starting to be a daily nightmare. I want so badly to forget the years I spent "fat" and wish they'd stop.

Part of my problem is that I lied about the band and didnt tell anyone at work (or family) about it. So many of them need a band but I cant tell them about it now! Its pure jealousy that I succeeded where they failed but nonetheless, it hurts.

I get that all the time, today is my one year anniversary and my BMI is stil 32. Whenever we go out to eat my husband has to tell everyone that I don't eat very much that is why we are sharing. AT work I hear you don't want to lose more do you. I agree it is very iritating.

just venting here.

I hate hearing this from people.

"You've lost enough weight now."

"You're not trying to lose any more weight are you?"

and at the dinner table

"Is THAT all you're eating?"

My dear Mother in Law in particular. She also accused me of starving myself. Don't get me wrong, I love my MIL, but it doesn't feel complimentary.

Now if I was within the 'average' or 'low' end of the BMI, I could understand and accept this comment from people. But I am still mildly overweight or whatever it says.

So I brush it off, say, Yes and thank you.

But deep inside it bugs the hell out of me.

I told a few people at work and all my family. I didn't want to tell too many people though in case it didn't work. I finally got to the point now where I tell everyone how I did it. I am proud of my success, some might think it is the easy way out, but anyone who has had this surgey knows it takes a lot of self contol among other things to keep losing and keep it off. It has been one year today since I was banded.

I have been at goal for awhile now. I think my MIL and others, have just given up, thankfully. I rarely hear a comment now and I am slimmer than ever.

Life is good.

I am so happy to see this thread. I am also getting these comments daily at work and I do find it irritiating. Why is it only OK for them to have healthy BMI. I work with several really thin ladies and I always ask why no one tells them that they are too small and they say "Oh, you don't want to be THAT thin do you? You need to learn when enough is enough."

Ticks me off royal, but I just grin and bear it. Now I'm more determined than ever to show them the REAL me.

I am glad to hear that it wears off once they get used to the new us.

I think for many of us, we have been "big" for so long, people get used to seeing us that way. When we lose weight, they start thinking we are too skinny, mainly because they have never seen us look that way before.

I am still at a 27 to 28 BMI, and people are telling me daily, quit losing weight, I'm starting to look "sick". Oh, how this pisses me off. What in the world do they think is their business. I am by no means anorexic, and I eat, I just eat healthy. I no longer eat the Cookies and huge meals, so they think I'm starving myself!

Anyhow, my goal for now is to get to healthy BMI of 25. I will then work on improving that number regardless of what people think or say.

Yep, we have all heard it and dealt with it. You are going to blow away. Just because we are smaller, doesn't mean that I am finished. It does take more work to get there. I am about 15 away from MY goal, started at size 16 now size 6/8. I have mirrors in my house as well. More toning, I have lost 61 lbs,8.5 months post op. Now it is a TOOL. You remember and don't want to go back. Those last pounds are very tough. I have had 5 fills, now have 6.5cc in a 10 cc band. I can tell I am getting closeronly lost 2 lbs since last fill 3 weeks ago. Restriction is not quite the same feeling as it was. so it is time to tighten up again. maybe a little extra this time. I walk4-6 miles 6x week and work out with hand weights and a bowflex. the works, no longer go to the gym. My body numbers continue to move to the good side. I love my band. I tell myself from time to time, No more diets the rest of my life. Just good healthy eating. It all in the band, lets have some more band fun. Enjoy.:cool2:

When people say to me "You're not going to lose any more, are you?" I've started answering "No" just because I don't want to get into the comments and arguments. I figure I want to lose about 5 more pounds and they aren't going to notice it anyway, so why talk about it?

I love this thread. Having reached goal after 30 years of being overweight, I had an LBL which I found really tough. Arrived home from hospital, was greeted by my well-meaning mother who exclaimed that I looked "too thin" (BMI of 25 or slightly less) and she would cook for me and "fatten me up" in the coming weeks. After all my efforts and all my explanations.................................

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
