Had VSG at 21, now I'm 24 and 84 lbs down

Recommended Posts

After much thought I got gastric sleeve surgery at 21 years old after dealing with weight issues my entire life. I was still young and I wanted the tool to gain my life back. I lost 60 lbs and then broke my ankle which halted further progress because I was non-weight bearing for 10 weeks. I also started vet school and did a lot of stress eating, however I was still able to maintain my weight pretty well. I've gotten a second wind to reach my goal and even 3 years post-op I'm still able to manage CICO easily thanks to my tool. I'm slowly but steadily reaching my goal that I once thought was unobtainable. What I do - CICO CICO CICO! I watch where my calories are coming from (more Protein & Fiber preferably). I would like to have the time to exercise, but that might have to wait until after graduation lol.

Calories in calories out. Knowing what your basal metabolic rate is and taking in less calories than that. If you exercise then you can take in a few more calories. I'm on Reddit a lot. the /r/loseit community uses that lingo a lot lol.

Ahh right. I was wondering why 10 weeks bed rest stopped weight loss assuming you were still eating small amounts ? I'm disabled so use a wheelchair mostly depending. So don't often weight bare and it's not stopped my weightloss but then again my situation has always been the same so perhaps the amount you ate was small before your injury but you still ate the same amount as if you were more active? I'm not very scientific lol just curious

Well also being stuck in my dorm room for most of my last semester of college led to me being depressed and bunch of snacking (due to depression & boredom). I didn't gain wait but was at a maintenance level. Once I could walk again, I was just happy to be under 200 lbs (/r/loseit likes to say onederland lol) and got complacent because then veterinary school took over my life.

They say onderland too here haha is it like a vsg weight loss form or just general weightloss. And I understand how depression can effect people . Hope your feeling better emotionally and physically

Feeling lots better in many ways!!! /r/loseit is just general weight loss but they support people who've had surgery as well, but there's also /r/wls for surgery specific weight loss.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
