My surgery is on friday. Last week my daughter was sick and had a strep throat. Today I woke up feeling like crap. I have so many things to do before the surgery. I doubt it, but would they still perform the surgery if I'm sick?

I know my surgeon warned me he would not do the surgery if I was sick. Best of luck & hope you feel better soon.

I am so worried about this too. My surgery is on 12/11 and I am so worried I will get sick before. I took Zicam to try to fight anything off. It really depends on how bad it is but if there is a chance of infection they probably won’t do it. Its for your safety so nothing unfortunate should happen to you afterwards. Take care of yourself and good luck with your journey.

I don’t think you want to have the surgery if you are sick. The anesthesia and pain meds can slow your respiration and lower your o2 sats, and if you are already congested, it will be harder to expel the anesthesia from your lungs (you get a blowing thing post-op to try to clear your lungs to avoid pneumonia). So I suggest you be very honest with your team about your symptoms and defer if that’s what they suggest. Better to defer than end up in ICU for low oxygen or worse.

No. Think about it. Your body is already in a vulnerable position and increased risk of infection. I know someone who had it canceled because of a cold. And another told me about her friend who did not mention to the Dr he had a cough. He ended up on intensive care. Call your surgeon and let them know.

It doesn't even have to be bad. A slight cold can derail surgery. Depending on surgeon of course.

For anyone else. Use hand gel every time you come in your home and wash your hands more often and if you have kids wash their hands as soon they come in from school a week before your surgery . Sometimes it's inevitable.

I had a chest cold for 3 days before my surgery on 11/28. I told the RN the day before and she said come in anyway and they’d listen to me. The doc said they do surgery as long as the lungs sound good and thankfully mine were clear by then. They said if you have symptoms “above the neck” like nasal congestion they don’t cancel surgery but they don’t mess with lung issues. So I was technically still sick with nasal congestion, but my surgery went perfectly and I had no complications...and I’m recovering well at home. So I would tell them— you may not have it cancelled!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
