3 years post op. Need a buddy or mentor to keep me accountable.

Recommended Posts

I had VSG 10/21/14. HW 232 LW 119 CW 132. 5'3". I am so scared of regain. I am up about 13 lbs from my lowest weight in July of this year. I have never had an issue with food or drink, never threw up post op. There isn't anything I CAN'T eat, I still have restriction, but I can eat all day. I had a premiere Protein Drink every morning until recently. I haven't had the money to stock up like I want to. I need someone to keep me accountable and push me through this funk I'm in.

Holy moly! I feel like I’m reading my own story. I never had issues with eating or drinking either. Never an issue with food. Never lost the taste for things I like.
I too can graze all day, AND I drink Premier Protein shakes lol
My surgery was 12/2/14. I’ve gained between 8-14 lbs given any day. Up and down I go.
I’m In a funk too. We can work together on it [emoji109].
I literally just went to the gym 3x two weeks ago. I hadn’t been to the gym 3x in a year! Lol
That following week my 5 yo daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed and it’s been a nightmare so I haven’t gone to the gym since nov. 13 I think.
Does the shake keep you full for more than an hour? When I drink mine I feel it just slides right out of my banana ( that’s what I call my sleeve lol).
Do you hit the gym at all? I’m totally gonna try this week.
Let’s push through the rest of this year together [emoji322][emoji322][emoji322][emoji322]

I haven't been to the gym in quite a while. I work in a medical office that is right next to the local YMCA. I used to go every day at lunch, but they closed it to remodel and it hasn't been open in about 8 months. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't really worked out since then. The shakes work A LOT better at keeping me full than a regular Breakfast. I ran out of shakes for about a week, and could really tell the difference. I grazed a lot more when I tried to just eat food instead of the shake.
I'm sure that, like everyone whose had wls, my biggest fear is regain. It's only 10 lbs from my lowest weight, but I feel it, and I feel horrible. It's nice to talk to someone who has gone through the same thing.

Hi,

I understand exactly where you're coming from. As a person with a minimal budget I know the shakes can get a bit pricey. You don't need to go to the gym to be active. Try to preoccupy yourself with a fun hobby etc that will help you get active again while enjoying it more. Instead of grazing try more lean meats and/or (burgers from trader joes-if there is one near you). They have the most inexpensive burgers I've seen anywhere. The positive is that you noticed your behavior lately and want to correct it, so give yourself some credit. You can get back that weight.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
