Two days post op

Recommended Posts

I am two days post op. Felt great when i came out from under anesthesia. I started phase 1 diet, was walking etc. Day two i became very nauseted and started vomiting. Day three i am still nauseated, havent vomited, am taking zofran and phenergan. Have a hard time walking, try to keep my legs moving while i am down. Cannot tolerate the Protein Shakes at all, so am livingon Water right now. Having horrible left lower quad pain which seems to be gas. Is this normal, will it get better?

I don't have much wisdom to offer sorry. Everyone is different but I would speak to the surgeon about it anyway. Could turn out to be something fairly simple. The one trick I do know is that if you have a lot of gas and in the beginning you do, lie on your left side with your legs pulled up almost foetal position. It helps the gas to move. Good luck!

It's probably the carbon dioxide they put in your stomach to blow it up so they have room to move. For the nausea have you tried Isopure? It's gentler than a Protein Shake.

Oops forgot. The only thing that gets rid of the gas is walking. Hope you feel better.

The pain sounds like gas which walking and gas-x tablets help to curb. You need to be having the Protein Shakes and Vitamins.< /p>

Also I'm always annoyed that people are sent home so soon after surgery. I vomited intensely my 2nd day post op and the surgeon put me on an IV with strong anti nausea drugs. I was only released once they were sure I could keep liquids down. I went home on day 4 and things were good no major issues.

Thanks for the info. Things are improving. Still having a hard time with the Protein, not because of nausea, i just cant stand the sticky sweet of them. That being said, i am forcing myself to drink them anyway. Have changed to almond milk which thins them some.

Think of preventing Hair loss as incentive to get at least 60 grams of protein a day. I could never eat that much the 1st year so had to have 2 Premier Protein shakes. hair loss will happen but keeping protein levels up reduces the amount and makes it so minimal that no one will notice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
