Not Hungry

Recommended Posts

Hello- I just entered the puréed food stage and I want to make sure I’m doing this right. During the liquid diet I wasn’t hungry at all. I tried to eat Soup and pudding a few times but I mainly just had liquids. Now that I’m in the puréed stage, if I’m not hungry should I just not eat or should I be eating?

You have goals. You need to meet your goals because the surgery does mess up your hunger, but the body still needs fuel.

Fluid goals: at least 64oz

Protein goals: at least 60g

Vitamins

(These are for everyone... your program should have given you your specific goals).

Some of us don't feel hungry for the first year. Eat several times a day (as often as necessary to reach your goals).

I agree with Berry78, just focus on the requirements/goals first and foremost. Do whatever you can to get those 60g of Protein and 64oz of Fluid. Remember, Protein Shakes like Premier Protein count towards your "fluids", so does your Soup.

Also, I noticed that pudding would make me feel fuller really quickly and made it harder for me to reach my goals at first, so just put the puddings aside for now and perhaps switch to sugar-free popsicles?

eat what you're supposed to (e.g., most programs require at least 60 grams of protein) so that you'll heal and won't get sick. Be glad that you're not hungry. It's super easy to lose weight when you're never hungry!!! But do make sure you're getting in your requirements so you stay healthy.

btw - many of us don't get physically hungry again for a few months - some up to a year. So use that to its full advantage!!

I'm jealous too. I'm hungry all the time. Deep gnawing hunger. Sucks. I very much wish I wasn't. It would make things a whole lot easier!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
