Walking shoe recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a good pair of walking shoes this week-end and was wondering what shoes are recommended. I generally don't wear athletic shoes and am clueless what to look for in a shoe. Thanks for the help

I wear New balance shoes, but there are some others out there as well. the only thing about NB is that the insoles seems to wear out and I end up putting new ones in. I heard allot just autmoaticlly change there insoles when they get new one.

Good luck and enjoy the weather

I'm fond of Asics for athletic shoes. I've tried a lot of different kinds/brands and I've found them to be the most comfortable. I like it when you step down in a shoe and it kind of springs you effortlessly forward. These do that. I think I have the "Gel Kayano" but I'm not sure.

I am more focussed on running shoes, and I also wear an orthotic, but it depends entirely on your feet. I cannot recommend Brooks shoes highly enough, but then again the Asics Kayanos are also excellent shoes but they feel like crap on my feet (they're too narrow for me), so Brooks may not suit you.

But Brooks and Asics are very good brands and will have a shoe suitable for walking.

Adidas apparently has really beefed up its line too and is no longer such a "fashion" shoe but a more serious sports shoe.

I'm fond of New Balance because I have wide feet. I spent a month at a vegan health spa that emphasized walking and they told us to buy running shoes instead of walking shoes. Better cushioning. I've also seen that the shoes in the $60-$80 range usually perform as well as the more expensive shoes.

I tend to go through shoes quickly... so I tend to look and see what's on sale.

If you have a Kohl's near you... they often have 50% off sales for sneakers. :)

I like NB shoes, too - I have almost flat feet and tend to overpronate, so they fit my style best. My hubby swears by asics...all shoes are good, really depends on if you overpronate, underpronate, are normal, high arch, low arch, etc. Asics are too soft for me; I need a firmer shoe...Nikes toe box is too narrow...you get the idea...

If you have a Fleet Feet near you they will fit you with a shoe that meets your demands whether you need a cushion, stability or etc. shoe. They carry Brooks, Asics, NB, Mizuno and several more brands.

I love my Ryka shoes, they feel like I am walking on air. I also have 2 pairs of Nikes, one pair is awesome, the other pair is clunky and not as comfy.

Can you please tell me how you get all your Dr and weight information under your ticket? I tried but it doesn't seem to work.

Thank-you

I would recommend going to a running store and letting them analyze your walk pattern. I did this when I had a foot injury and am now pain free! I am wearing Brooks walking shoes. The right shoe is so important!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
