Newbie 3 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I'm nearly 3 weeks post op, I am fine with pureed runny yoghurt consistency foods but soon as I have food a bit thicker (mash potato creamy consistency) it gets stuck, is this normal? I'm only eating a finger nail size portion but still won't go down, does the stomach have selling after the op? How long does it take to progress thanks in advance I'm getting concerned

I would discuss with your surgeon. I had a good bit of swelling post op, and my surgeon advised puréed foods for almost 6 weeks. For me, mashed potatoes were not allowed because I had no starches for the first 3 months. I’ll still struggle with them a bit today because of the starchiness/consistency.

I saw the Dr she thinks I have air in my band causing it to be tighter she tried to aspirate it 3 times but couldn't access the port, it looks like it has flipped so I'm booked for an untrasound tomorrow to check.

It could also be caused by the gas that they pump into you during the procedure. It might be trapped in a location that is making it very uncomfortable for you. It dissipates after two or three weeks, but it feels miserable while you have it.

I'm sorry to hear this. I had my Lap-Band surgery almost 4 weeks ago (on Nov. 10th), and I only ate pureed food for the first 6 days. Had the surgery on Friday, and by the following Wed., I'd visited the doc and he told me to start back on regular food. I'm not eating carbs, so no rice, bread or Pasta. I do occasionally get things stuck, and it seems random. But when it's happened badly, it seems to be when I'm eating something chunkier quite quickly - like a hard-boiled egg and chunks of string cheese. It's only happened once where it was truly painful, and I had to take several sips of Water to get it down. It still bugged me for a few minutes after that, but not to the point of panic like I'd felt earlier.

I wish you well.

That's the key to what - feeling full?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
