December ‘17 Sleevers!! Call out!

Recommended Posts

December 2017 Sleevers! Friends wanted! My surgery is scheduled for 12/7/17 anyone else out there? Hi! I’m from NY. Retired LEO. Moved to Florida. I’m getting ready to start my pre op testing now. Have all paperwork in & insurance approval. Getting nervous about this journey! Help!!!

I’m 5’7 1/2” 226 BMI of 35. I’m one month pre op yet. Very interesting reading all of this! Some true inspiration stories here and weight loss time track envy! I’m praying to lose my hunger & extra pounds as quickly & steadily as possibly safe. I’ve got little support in my family And it’s more like everyone is waiting to see me fail & prove them all right since I tried the obera balloon last fall & failed MISERABLY Then proceeded to gain over 25 pounds in the last year. I’m a retired police officer of 20 years and have ALWAYS been strong & in shape & proud of my mother of 3 body. Not anymore. I don’t even recognize myself. Scheduled for surgery 12/7/17. I’m 46 years old.

Don't worry about the support system, my family didn't think I need the surgery but guess what they were all supportive by the time my surgery date came which was Nov 1st 2017. My surgery weight was 226. Not sure how much I weigh it's been less than a week since surgery! Good luck...mind over matter!! ☺

Thank you Nataleh! And good for you! How was your immediate post op? Pretty tough or not so bad? There are specific people in my life that I’m not even telling because I just know they’d say I was taking the easy way out & cheating & just be snarky about it.

Your welcome! I didn't have any vomiting thank God, but reading a lot of post just be prepared for nausea, one of my incisions split but it's healing nicely, I'm not back to myself yet but I feel so much better! 5 days post-op ☺

Hi there! This is my first time here, and I was happy to find your post as my surgery is scheduled for 12/5 at 7:30 a.m. My hubby is also retired after 22 years as a PO in Yonkers, NY. When I read that you were in FL, I was hoping South FL, but I just saw that you are in Cape Coral. How do you like it? I am in Boca Raton, on the east coast. I’d love to keep in touch. I just turned 47, am a proud Mom to a 6 year old daughter (and my 16 year old doggie) and work as a School Counselor. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life and am tired of being a yo-yo. I lose and re-gain constantly. I’m so over it. I was so blessed to have my daughter at 41 and want to do everything in my control to be on this Earth as long as possible for her.

My Mom had the surgery 15 months ago and has never felt better. My good friend had it a little over two years ago and says it is the best thing she’s ever done for herself.

I’m here for support anytime,

Patricia

I am scheduled for surgery on Dec 7 also and would love to have someone to "compare notes with " if you will. Are you on a liquid diet? I am 8 days in and today has been the hardest day yet! Tough just dealing with the chalky shakes and really need to crunch something!

Hi Tasg,

I was not put on a liquid diet for my upcoming 12/5 surgery. There was a Pre-op diet but it was balanced meals. Good Luck to you! I can’t wait until it is over!!!!

Hi Patricia

Looks like you are two days ahead of me. I too can't wait for this all to be over. I have two sisters who have had VSG in the last 15 months. I can't believe how different our pre op has been. We have all gone to three different programs in the Boston area. One sister had no pre op diet. Just Clear Liquids the day before. The other sister had to loose 10 lbs before surgery and did Protein Drinks and lean cuisine meals for a week. I have been on Protein Meal Replacement shakes for 12 days now with two days left to go. I will not miss cream of chicken Soup or broccoli cheddar soup or hot cocoa protein shakes! There names are just a suggestion I have learned! I have seen both sisters do incredibly well after surgery. One has lost over 100 lbs in 15 months and the second has lost 75 lbs in 6 months. They are feeling great and are what keeps me going when this all seems too much.

Hope everything goes smoothly and you are on your feet and shrinking soon

Be well

T

Thank you for the encouragement! Wow! Congrats to your sisters! Amazing inspiration. So sorry you had to live on shakes for so long. I will be doing that the next two weeks for sure. I can’t believe I’m doing it his tomorrow morning. If I can, I’ll let you know how it went. Good Luck to you!!!!

Hi there! How are you doing 3 days out? I pray all went well. I was VERY sore or gas pains or whatever it was the day of my surgery and Day 2. Day 3, 4 my only issues were the main incision pain and getting used to the feeling of drinking-the gurgling and sometimes REALLY feeling it going down. I’ve only taken 2 Tylenol a day since coming home-didn’t want to take the Rx pain meds and be a loopy mess in front of my 6 year old or deal with Constipation pains that the nurse said would be “worse than the surgical pain”. Today starts Day 5..hoping to feel even less incision pain. I hope you are well!

Hi all! Sorry I haven’t written in awhile! I’ve been busy losing! Lol. I’m down 23 pounds in 2 weeks! Feel fantastic! Had a hiatal hernia that needed repairing while he was doing the sleeve. But no complications post op. I’m just starting to eat tiny bites of regular food here & there. No hubger what so ever. Drinking my premier shakes & Water. Not exercising just yet. Hope all is well with everyone!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
