Hungry but cant eat much

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done in Thailand on 4th September. I lost 9kg in first two weeks, lost another 6kg in following 2 weeks, then nothing for 3 weeks. Checked today and lost 1.5kg in last 2 weeks. Its very depressing when so much money has been spent to have this weight loss surgery done, but the results are not coming through. Is this normal. I have no support here, as I had my surgery done privately in Thailand. I have tried numerous dietitians and Nutritionists; who charge heaps but actually are no help. I did find on line the Multivitamin called BN Multis, there are .co.nz and .co.au sites for them. They have a chewable multi specifically designed for Gastric sleeve and alike surgery and for a years supply I paid $300 nzd, which works out to be $25 per month - this is good value and especially for the multi designed for us !!! SO my weight loss is so slow, I cant each much and am constantly hungry, yet when I eat, what little I can eat, I then feel like vomiting - it feels a vicious circle ? anyone else feel like this, or have any suggestions? I know the Thyroid gland can go a bit squiffie after this type of surgery, so Im having that checked mid November. WOuld lovew some feedback and ideas to make the weight drop more. thanks

You've lost over 16kg (~36lbs) in less than 7 weeks. That is success.

As far as hunger, I went through that, too. I was so angry that I was hungry post-op. Are you taking an acid reducer (proton pump inhibitor aka PPI)? They may help to reduce the feeling of hunger.

The bottom line is that you are still healing and can't completely trust all of the signals your body is sending you right now. The nerves haven't fully healed and may not be sending accurate info to the brain.

The only way to know if you're eating correctly is through hard data. Measure your food. Know your calorie intake. Walk. Drink lots of Water.

You will go through weeks of not losing. It stinks. It is disappointing and frightening. In fact, I just went 2 weeks without losing an ounce, then BAM, 4lbs (1.8kg) off in one week.

Just come on to the boards whenever you need to let off steam. Goodness knows I have.

Best.

I second the ppi suggestion. But, research, research, research. My Dr recommends the ppi for only 30 days post op. Long term use isn't always recommended, but under a Dr's care, many take them long term if necessary. I switched to pepcid and have been OK.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations. I am on a PPI as I had acid reflux before the op too. Will just keep positive and going to my work out classes twice per week. It was also suggested that Im not eating enough calories and going into starvation ?? I dont know !!!

I am almost 6 weeks post op, and I still feel hungry. Then when I eat, I can eat a tiny little amount before I start to feel slightly nauseous. Eating is not a lot of fun right now, but I figure it will get better over time as I get used to my sleeve. So I definitely understand when you say you still feel hungry!

If you aren't already, take a look at your Protein, carbs, fat, etc. I had a small stall, but then I increased my carbs a bit and I have dropped 7 lbs in the past week. Weight loss is weird . . . sometimes a tiny little change can get it going again.

Good luck to you!!

Try adding the recommended Protein powders, the more of it you put into your diet the less you'll feel hungry. Increase your intake of Water and your walking.. The walking will help ease the mind as it gives you sometjing to do and help with taking some weight off along with the water intake....as long as youre getting in your protein dont worry about how much youre eating because at this point of time you can only get in about three table spoons of food..... Your body has just been through a major surgery so everything seems out of wack mentally asnd physically each day tell yourself and know it will get better only you can do this better than asny doctor or nutrionist...All is well and you will be one to relate later on and encourage another on their journey just as Ive done☺️☺️☺️☺️

I feel for you, your posts echoes similar thoughts and experiences I had. And the first plateau is so hard. Some people do not get through it for months. It’s not a surgical failure or you at fault, it’s how the body adjusts. We are all different and so it will adjust differently than others - this means some plateaus will go on for weeks, even months, others won’t have them for much of their weightloss at all.

My advice is don’t weigh in for two weeks, or a week, then weigh in. Make sure you get Calcium and Iron, hair tends to fall out otherwise. Be sure and drink lots of Water.

The vomiting is normal IF you eat too fast. One has to really slow it down, chew chew chew. It’s tedious but your body will warn you that you are soon facing restriction BEFORE you get nauseous if you slow it down.

I still have this issue if I accidentally don’t chew something thoroughly and eat it too fast.

You will only be able to do 2oz max, maybe three if the food is soft ( think yogurt or cottage cheese) it will be 6 months before you eat 4oz steadily and beyond 4oz with ease.

You may be tempted to graze as a result of this. I have and sometimes do but catch myself, so try to stick to the eating schedule I have set up for myself. This has helped me oodles.

I understand about lack of support. My father was ill, so not many focused on my end, understandably. I think the best thing is to utilize YouTube and these forums, also read articles on goggle. There is a lot of information but at the end of the day you know your body best. Something you read will seem the right course of action for you to take.

Wishing you well and the best. I know you will be ecstatic when your weight comes off again. I know! Because my body reacted much like yours.

You got this!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
