Hello,

I'm now 3 weeks post endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, and I'm starting to have some second thoughts about having done it. I'm still having a lot of stomach pain/cramping and have not been able to transition from a liquid to a soft diet very easily. Still mostly all liquid. I have no follow-up with the GI Dr. who did the procedure. I never even had a consultation prior! And I just got the final bill from the hospital - all told I'm out $20,000 for this "basic" non invasive, 45 minute outpatient procedure. Ugh.

I wanted a way to re tighten my previous sleeve gastrectomy done in 2012. But the constant gastric discomfort is really troublesome. Not to mention the lack of follow-up care and support 😕

Dear Esgnewbie,

That sounds horrible! I’m so sorry that you had a bad experience. Who was your doctor? Have you tried to contact the doctor about your discomfort? The doctor should have put you on some pain medication for the cramping. This is very unprofessional and if I were you I’d call the office and raise hell. $20,000 is also a lot to pay for this procedure. Every piece of info on the ESG procedure places the price tag at a maximum of $15,000 with some as low as $10,000. The very least your doctor should do is bring you in for a follow up and help ease your discomfort with medication. I’d try reaching out to the doctor’s office first. Once again I’m so sorry about your discomfort and hope you feel better very soon.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
