It is common not to have a bowel movement for several days after surgery. You are only taking in liquids at this point, plus you had major surgery, which slows things down. I would give it a couple more days and then if you want to take something, you can do a suppository like Yolanda mentioned, or you can safely take a dose of milk of magnesia or Miralax.

It is a one time thing but remember because of the Vitamins and pain medication you're going to be constipated so I allow myself go five days and then use one some weeks I had a bowel movement on my own so I only used three suppositories overall so far and you might want to add more Fluid and more walking to aid you in a BM!

I'm 4 days out and was told no Vitamins or medicine or shakes until next week... am I the only one doing it like this the first week? And I finally had a bowel movement,..... I think the beef broth did it

I was told to start back up on my vitamins straight away. No need to crush either if it went down well, which it did.

Had my sleeve done 3 days ago. Have not had a bm since Wednesday. Can I take stool softeners/laxative?? Or does it have to be a powder??

I left the hospital with a liquid stool softener. I had my first Bm today. It was small, but painless. And I’ve only consumed the softener once. I was sleeved on Friday and had a BM on Friday right before the surgery. Hope this helps!

My surgeon told me to take the stimulant Milk of Magnesia if i want to force my body to go. Then after taking MoM and 'cleaning out' he said i could go on Miralax to keep my BMs consistent. Miralax isn't a stimulant like MoM so it wont force the stool out, its design is to make the poop easier to pass since it pulls Water to ur stool.
Whatever u decide, good luck! Nothing worse than not having regular, easy to pass BMs.

I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Was not able to do a BM until post op day 4. Pre-op was only shakes, so nothing was there. After that I only went every 2 days.... then....last week MAJOR Constipation hit I had to use an enema :-(

my advice- take 2 stool softeners a day to prevent that. We are not eating enough Protein to keep it going, and it's hard to drink water.... so take my advice and start stool softeners! I plan on doing that until I am on soft foods when I can hopefully eat more Fiber

I have been getting more and more constipated every day. I can usually go like every other day, but getting harder to go each time. Today was absolutely awful and painful! So I went straight to Walmart and bought a stool softener. A nurse where I work told me I can take one a day for as long as I need to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
