What is your Pre-OP Diet?

Recommended Posts

I can only have Clear Liquids e.i. sf Jello, sf popsicles (saving grace), sf Powerade, Water, and broth three days prior to surgery. I'm dizzy every morning and extremely snappy to people around me....I also have a constant headache. BUT I've lost 4 lbs in two days so that's good.

Mines the same for a week before surgery

Wow that's pretty harsh. Your surgery will be cancelled. Also. It's your responsibility to get your meds in liquid form. My Surgeon helped me with that. Just think your surgeon or clinic could be a little friendlier in their approach.

I have a question, which may sound silly, but ... my surgery is tomorrow. So I’m on clear liquids. I know all the regular clear liquid stuff but can I have Protein Water? It looks clear but I can’t find anywhere where it says protein water is ok or not. It’s not mentioned. I think some added protein will help me get through this.

So.. what’s the deal with protein water on the day before surgery?

Thanks a lot!

GNC has the clear Protein Drink. Im on a 10 day liquid diet, no food or veg at all. Im then on a CLEAR liquid diet night before surgery. It was AWFUL for the first 3 days! Now I am used to it. I lost 10 lbs in 4 days though

I was wondering the same thing! I asked my surgeon specifically if a clear protein drink was ok and she said it was fine to have. I also asked about Bone Broth because I found some that had 9 grams of protein per cup of broth! She ok’d both. Hope that helps

I was not allowed the Protein Drinks for day 9 and 10, on the 10 day pre-op, only broth, Vitamin Water zero, crystal light, sf popsicles, sf Jello, Decaf coffee or tea.....so basically noncaloric stuff.

Ours is simply a clear liquid diet the day before surgery and a bowel prep in the evening, similar to what's done before a colonoscopy (the last part being a bit of overkill for a sleeve, but consistent with the bulk of their practice being DS's.)

Mine is the exact same as you RickM. It's just like what I did before my colonoscopy.

I had both Bone Broth and clear protein drinks prior to surgery too. The bone broth is much more satisfying!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
