Can I have sushi wrapped with brown rice at the puree stage? I start puree diet tomorrow! I can't wait!

It has been a gruelling long 6 weeks.

Sushi does not qualify as puree food pal.. check with your Dr first.. also don’t think is a good idea eating raw fish, you want to avoid stomach infection.. your stomach still healing.. at least for 4 weeks.. stick to the plan and you will be able to eat anything by week 6..stay strong [emoji123][emoji123]

Sorry, I meant to say the California roll with avocado and crabmeat. [emoji21] I don't eat raw meat of any kind.

But, I guess that's still a no. Hmm, could I blend it.

At this point you should be totally restructuring your approach to food. It is fuel not there to comfort you with reminders of past routines. I'd really encourage you to wrap your head around maximine protien and nutrients per bite.

Yeap! I'm still doing that. It just seems like I'm on the strictest diet post op known to man. I haven't had anything mushy and I will be starting that tomorrow at week 5. So, I'm overly excited to have something more than broth and cream Soup. And, I still get my 60 grams of Protein and drinking Water as required. [emoji2]

I don't get to have regular food until week 9.

Why not have the avocado and crab will a little sauce and skip the rice? My plan says to add one food item at a time to test how my new stomach accepts it. Your head may say you want this but your stomach may have different plans!

I guess I will wait until I can get regular food at week 9 and then, ease into it if possible. [emoji4]

How on earth is that a purée? Nope. If your stage is purees then unless you purée the California roll it's not a purée.

Rice had no place in my plan until I was at goal. Even now four years out it doesn't sit well in my stomach so I don't eat t.

I really don't understand how greatly doctors' plans vary after wls. At 6 weeks I was cleared for all foods. I did have sushi, but I will warn you that rice expands. That is something you'll only be able to eat a tiny bit of for a while. And on my "purée" stage, all but the rice would have totally been acceptable. I could eat fish, canned chicken, even spinach during the purée stage, I was just warned to chew thoroughly.

I just had my 4 week post op appt. yesterday and my Dr said no Pasta, bread, or rice for at least a couple more months. He said it can cause blockage in my esophagus. He said I should not even be eating the noodles in chicken noodle Soup. Breads and pasta have always been my love... but no more.

It's because there is a lack of scientific peer reviewed evidence to back up a particular diet so each doctor uses their best clinical judgement based on their expertise and experience.

We chose our surgical team based on that expertise and experience so we should probably trust their dietary advise for the same reason.

I’m with you on the strict diet! I’m not at the mushies yet either. Had Clear Liquids for 2 weeks, now I’m on full liquids for 2 weeks. (One more to go!) I was craving sushi today and this post popped up. I thought about nixing the rice when I’m at the proper stage!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
