You have to be at peace with your decision. I wanted to lose 100 pounds and have not looked back. There are days when I am kind hungry and wish I could eat.... but being overweight was not a happy place for me. I knew this was my last option. I had given dieting 100% and it was never enough. You are the only one who knows if this is the right choice. I wish I would have done this sooner!

Hi Justin, I can understand your apprehension. I am going through the same thing. What I keep coming back to is that I have lost 100 pounds more than once. Keeping it off is another component that I haven't mastered. Either I suffer from increasing comorbidities or I decide on a tool that will be another component in helping me loose and keep it off.

When you are ready the decision will be easy. It is a lifelong change. In my case being diagnosed with diabetes did it for me.

I, I'm a newbie to this whole idea. I am a 310lbs, 6ft. male. I have very bad back painn, sciatica and a afib. Five spine surgeons have said no to surgery on my back because of my weight. They want me down around 225lbs. I'm 65 and have not been 225 since college. I'm retire, played golf and love to eat good food. I'm a trained chef but retired as a chief engineer. I know what is good food and what is not and how to prepare it. How can I ever change my feeling toward food to limit myself to such small portions.

I go for my first visit with the bariatric team on Wednesday. Scared, depressed and in pain.

If you’re having any major immediate health issues that would pose a need for WLS, I’d try lifestyle changes first, because this is permanent. I did well on Keto during my supervised well loss period pre-op and might have opted to just continue that and see how far I got, but fibrosis of the liver spurred me to do the surgery. You can always start the process with a surgeon and decide for certain as it gets closer. Most drs & insurance require a period of supervised weigh loss first, psych evaluation and nutritionist mtg(s). These might give you the boost you need to do it on your own. And if not, than you’re already working on completing all the requirements.

I would lower the pressure on yourself on deciding and try to attend an information session first. Keep an open mind and don't think so far in the future. You'll feel less nervous if you go into this with more knowledge.

Honestly, due to insurance, health clearances and old fashioned indecision it took me a year between my going to an information session and actually going through with it. At any time during your preparation you could change your mind and not have the surgery. You are in complete control.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
