Fifth day post op

Recommended Posts

So many different challenges last night i got discharged from hospital and boy was that hard. I got a hight raised toilet to not strain since its low . Getting up from bed has been painful due to the staples and coughing makes it worst. At the hospital we are told to pass gas witch then made my Hemorrhoids come out so its another discomfort. As for the food i am not hungry one bit and have been able to hold down my fluids follow up on TuesdayImage1506102078.694953.jpg hope this gets easier

It will get easier! Each day pretty much. I'm 2 weeks out & today was a LOT better. I'm short, so getting in & out of bed in the beginning was painful and challenging - I used a footstool, and this may sound crazy, but what works for me now is going in bed on my knees then carefully lower onto my side. Getting out, I scoot close to the side of bed and roll out. Walking has been a God send! Every day slowly increase. About 4 days or so out, I started short walks outside, holding on to someone's arm.

You've got the right attitude, one day at a time! :) I've got to share with you, looking at your picture, made me think about the 2 incisions in the middle - for some reason I reacted to the steri strips (just on those 2 incisions - very red at the end of them) my Dr. removed them at the 1 week follow up & it was worse than I thought, very sore, healing areas, and redness scattered more after. Thank God it's looking better, was concerning for awhile! That's great you're doing those walks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
