How long do plateus/stalls typically last?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved a month ago, and up until a few days ago I was losing weight pretty well. I had lost 25 pounds ... and then the weight loss just stopped. I have been stalled at this weight.

I don't know if it's because I have been moved to mechanical solids (small bites, but real food) from the puree stage, or if it's just a natural thing.

Do I have to wait for this to end, or is there a way to kickstart more weight loss?

Arthur, I think your body just has to catch up to the enormous amount of changes that your body has gone through in a relatively short amount of time. At 3 weeks out, I hit a stall for a week. I lost no weight. I lost inches though, because my clothes were getting bigger. I could tell the difference, even within 1 week. Anyway, the first day of the next week, I lost 4 pounds overnight. I then continued to lose at least 4-5 pounds per week up til this week. At week 6, I am noticing that I am the same weight that I was 4 days ago. I am possibly entering another stall, but it is okay. No need to worry. You will not....I repeat not stop losing weight long term on 600-700 calories per day. Not at this point in your journey. Keep doing what you are doing, and your body will respond.

Good Luck!

Stalls of up to a week will happen regularly. Sometimes up to 3 weeks long.

You start getting concerned when you are the same weight and size (take regular measurements) for over a month.

I'm just over 2 months out and I've been stalled for almost 3 weeks. I think this is a pretty normal thing so don't let it get into your head. Up your Protein and Water, take your Vitamins, and soon you should see the scale move. Like others have mentioned, my clothes are still getting looser and I can see my face slimming down. Also - get off that scale! Best thing I ever did...I weighed every day for a month and a half and the stress of a stalled scale was really affecting me.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
