14 Years Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and excited about connecting with people in a similar situation. I had my surgery in 2003. I was extremely happy at 180lbs as I'm 5'10" so it was proportioned just right. Over the past 4 years I started gaining weight. Deaths, stress and depression just took over my life and I stopped focusing on myself. The bad news is I gained almost 100lbs back but the good news is that I just found out my pouch is still small and has no leaks. My tool is still functioning properly I just need to use it. I'm looking for anyone in a similar situation so we can support each other with this journey.

It is common to have some limited weight gain after weight loss surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond this 20 pounds. Most times this weight gain is due to a poor choice of Snacks. Snacks should be limited to primarily to whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible.

Also do not expect to lose weight at a rate similar to right after surgery. Generally if you gained the additional weight over a couple years, then it may take a couple years of watching what you eat to get back down.

I'm 2 years post op and would like to lose 10 more pounds. The weight can certainly start coming back on as life and bad food choices happen. Wishing you all the best on your journey. Possibly the pouch reset diet would be good for you? I've read about it online.

Yes I do. I am over 4 years post-op. Blish is over 14 years post-op. The advice I gave came directly from the mouth of my nutritionist when we had a frank discussion on why people regain weight after surgery and how they can pull themselves back to where they want to be.

Yes we understand about the about 20 bounce weight and what things we should or should not eat but if you read the post more closely, you would see they stated that death and stress and depression took over and they lost their way.

There is a huge difference from 4 years and 14 years. They get what they did wrong but it was out of there control and have checked and know that they don't have any damage or a stretched pouch. They are wanting to get back on track and was asking it anyone else was in the same place with regain as them and wanted to go through this new journey of losing it together for support.

Ok now that I have said that... BLISH message me when you can, I understand where you are at and how you got here...as I am in the same place as you and for the same reason !! So I get it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
