Hello all, I'm new here, I'm trying to get the process started to get surgery, I have Maryland priority partners , I've been looking around online to see if priority partners would even cover bariatric surgery , but I haven't had any luck, the way they have things worded, doesn't really give a yes or no answer, can anyone point me in the right direction, as to what steps I need to take & how do I go about doing them, also is there anyone here, who is from Maryland & has medical assistance / priority partners that has been through the process and gotten approved, any tips or helpful info would be greatly appreciated, I feel completely lost & I wanna be sure I do things right so I'll have a good outcome

Contact Johns Hopkins Bayview Bariatric Center. They can tell you whether they take your insurance and whether your insurance covers the procedure.

You don't have to go through Hopkins.. it's just the biggest name in MD (and where I would have gone if I didn't go to Mexico).

I did a nutrition session at Hopkins Bayview (before deciding to switch to University if Maryland), and there were several people in my class who had Priority Partners. If you go to one of their scheduled information sessions, you will be able to meet one of the coordinators who can likely help. But I think you will be covered.

I live in Pa, but I just went to the informational seminar at my bariatric clinic, from there, they take your info and check your insurance coverage.

You need to contact your insurance company. I'm not familiar with the insurance you have, just speaking from what I know. The bariatric center can accept your insurance, but if you don't have a Ryder on your insurance to cover bariatric surgery, it won't matter what they accept. Even if I had insurance through the same company as you, we may be covered in different things. So checked with them on coverage and also what they require for it to be covered. Most companies have a weight reduction program period and possibly more.

I agree with PTundra6. The only way to get an accurate answer is to cal your insurance company. If the say yes, they cover WLS, ask them if they specify what kinds of surgery, and where you can have it. Also ask what their pre op requirements are, and ask them to send you a copy of all relevant information in writing.

Hey girlie, i live in maryland. I have cigna so my process was different. I honestly don't think any of the state insurance programs cover bariatric surgery. What i would suggest, is call your surgeon's office directly and ask to speak to their billing coordinator. They would be able to tell you if your insurance is accepted and how much you would owe out of pocket.

Who was your surgeon btw?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
