I have a serious question...

Does anyone here use medical marijuana? I use it due to great pain after a broken neck in 1990. I don't smoke it, I bake it into foods and infuse coconut oil, so I don't have an anesthesia problem, but I'm worried my doc will restrict it on general principal. I also am wondering how to broach the subject with my doc. Any help out there? Did anyone utilize it prior to and following their procedure?

Personally I wouldn't bring it up at all. I would however start smoking or vaping it as you don't want/can't eat those things after surgery.

Also, I never find it increases my appetite - it just makes everything taste hella good, so if you start eating stuff high, you just don't want to stop.

I don't have any problems with eating now while high. i just don't eat.

I was up front and very blunt when I started the program in November of 2016, and told my original nurse that yes, I used to smoke and had recently (days before) when going to the appointment.. She said that she shouldn't even admit me into the program with the use of smoking anything, weed or otherwise, but that in good conscious, so long as I quit, everything would be fine. Apparently my hospital had a 2 month no-smoke period before even starting the gastric process (oops, had no idea!)... As @Half-Tum mentioned, I probably wouldn't mention it either.. but that's also just due to genuine worry.. However, if you look up some information on your hospital in particular, maybe that would lead you in the right direction as far as what you may feel comfortable opening up about. I would normally say honest is best, but that almost kicked me in the teeth before lol.

Does your surgeon offer support groups? I just went to mine tonight and there is a Q&A period, and also an opportunity to ask anonymous questions, if you don't feel comfortable talking about it with your doctor.

The act of smoking was brought up as an issue in my meeting tonight, They said it is especially dangerous if you have had gastric bypass. My surgeon will recommend the sleeve over bypass for anyone who thinks there is a chance they might smoke again..

I'm not sure if there is any harm if you aren't smoking it.. maybe addiction transfer?

No, I don't use for the high, I use because my body does not metabolize pain meds, so it is a medical necessity. I'm hoping there will be understanding.....

I would discuss with the surgeon. I would consider it like any other medication. I want the surgeon knowing exactly what's going on in my body. I would hope he wouldn't refus to treat...but at least you'd know sooner than later.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
