Lab Test needed and surgery is on 9/15

Recommended Posts

So I have my surgery scheduled for 9/15 but due to the hurricane I haven't been able to get my labs done. If I get my labs done on Tuesday do you think my doctor will get my results by Thursday to clear me for surgery Friday?

If you're talking blood work, there's no reason you couldn't do it the day of surgery and be fine. It literally takes 30 seconds to look at the results and maybe an hour ish for the lab to process it. The issue becomes if something is extremely off (ie your potassium is really low) in which case there's not enough time to correct it and your surgery gets canceled

If you're talking different kinds of lab work (ultrasounds, MRI etc) then I'm not quite how sure how that process works

Where are you located? If you're in FL before I did labs I'd wait to make sure the DR can still do surgery that day. Just given the severity of the hurricane the DR may opt to postpone it. Not trying to discourage you just trying to be realistic since I went through Katrina. My friend is a surgery tech and after the hurt she said the surgeries done were only emergencies since the area was so devastated.

You are right that could be the case. In the area we are in we are getting it for sure but it isn't too bad. I know in Miami and the Keys things are really bad. I was so excited but I have to telescope cause my surgery will happen in due time.

I tested positive for H.Pylori via a breath test, I am finished with everything else and was ready to turn into my insurance when i was tested, My insurance requires it. I am currently taking Biaxin, Previcide and Amoxicillin for the next 14 days. I was wondering if anyone else has had this and what else did they take to get rid of it? I go for testing again Oct. 3rd so i am waning a negative test result so i can be scheduled for surgery.

I have read that some people used Extra Strength Pepto Bismol but how much and when did you take it? did you take it with the antibiotics and previcide or after those were done? Anything that has worked for anyone here would be great to hear from you, please.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
