My port is in a different area, keep that in mind.

My first fill, done under a local, hurt like hell. Not the fill itself, but the numbing. Hurt much, much worse than you'd think a lidocaine shot would hurt.

Second fill (and all subsequent fills) I requested no local, and they didn't hurt a bit. Just the teeniest, tiniest prick - seriously less noticeable than getting blood drawn. Once the needle is through the skin, Idon't feel a thing.

I go this morning and I am scared. I am taking a Xanax before I go. I am really afraid of neddles. Plus, the fact that I ate like crap yesterday. My Doctor always asked you what you ate the day before. Of course, I had 2 slices of pizza. So that should send him over the hill. Plus a piece of Birthday cake. Great, huh? I do good the whole month and right before my fill, I screw up. I am drinking my Protein Drink before I go. This is what I wanted and need to lose weight. So, I need to suck it up and do this thing! But, i am still scared......

Mary:cry

I'm going for my first fill today. Not sure what to expect, so I hope it all goes well. Does your dr require you to have a ride back home, or is it ok to drive yourself back home. I have no idea why I just thought of this....Dave

My doc uses a numbing spray. All I feel is a kind of a pinch. It is a wee bit uncomfortable. My advice is relax and do not look at the needle. It is truly not that bad considering the results. This has been my experience in the 4 fills that I have had.

My port is in the same place and also sore. I asked about this and was told that it's because it's sewn right there that when we move a lot we tug at it and it's normal to be sore. I went in on Sat and the needle was very scary, but I only felt a pinch as it went in. We did the whole thing under floro so the doc lined up everything perfectly. The weird part was when he had me sit up with the giant needle sticking out and I did the barium swallow. It's actually really cool to be able to see the band for the first time! My doc said he was going to give me a good fill this time. He said they don't do like a lot of docs and only put in a little at a time. Anyhow, it wasn't painful and I'm a big baby. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
