Surgery completed Aug 21, 2017

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery yesterday at 7:30am. I woke up from surgery in some pain and asked for several doses of pain meds, but within the hour I was very comfortable and in little to no pain. My Dr also removed my gallbladder and repaired a hernia, so I have 6 incisions. I have a pain in my shoulder which I was told is normal and is due to the CO2 they use to inflate your belly. I feel a little blotted but no gas pains and just a bit of burping. I was released from the hospital about 5pm that same day. I've only taken Tylenol since I've been home. Woke up this morning with no pain. My Dr administered something called Exparel in my wounds which is a long term pain blocker and I think this might be why I dont have any pain. I've had no nausea and have not taken any of the prescribed promethazine. I drank just Water the day of surgery. I woke up this morn and had 1/4 cup of chick broth cuz the Dr said to have warm liquids in the morning to break up the flem. So far, the first 24-hrs have been very easy. I will write more updates. I absolutely loved my Dr and the hospital staff. If your in the Fort Worth area, I highly suggest Dr Novak at Ultimate Bariatric Clinic. They do the surgery at the Trophy Club Medical Center which is newer and very clean. The staff of nurse's were so awesome and friendly.

It's been about 2 1/2 days and still no pain, but the gas pressure is very uncomfortable. Not feeling hungry, but I do miss being able to chew...sipping liquids and letting ice melt in your mouth is getting old. I can't drink the clear Protein Drinks because they are too sweet, which is very strange because before surgery I had a huge sweet tooth. But so far so good.

Good to know you are not in a lot pain. But I hope the gas pain goes away. My surgery is Friday I've been so busy that I haven't had chance to get nervous don't know if that's good thing or not.

TrulyKendra....don't be nervous...its really not bad at all. Ask your doctor if they use Exparel in the surgery site....I really think this is a huge reason I haven't been in pain. I'm on day 3 and still not taken any narcotic pain meds with the exception on the first night because I was afraid the pain would start in the middle of the night and I thought it would help me sleep. I took tylenol regular on day of surgery and yesterday morning, but havent even needed that. I'm on my way out of the house to go grocery shopping and mail a package so

that should tell you how well I'm feeling. The bloating feels like when you overeat Mexican food and all the Beans make you gas but you cant pass gas...so although is not comfortable, its also not painful. I do have a pain in my shoulder from the CO2, but its a lot less today. The doctor told me the CO2 discomfort will subside day 4-6. I will keep you updated on that. I wish you well and cant wait to hear from you after surgery.

That's great! I have to get my gallbladder taken out too. My primary doctor said that I should just have the stones crushed and get a second opinion.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
