It is incredibly freeing to not feel the need to indulge in food. I have been so lucky to not expire either any cravings so far post op. I love being able to go to an ice cream shop with my family and just socialize with them while they have their treat. I know never feeling hungry will eventually fade, but I am encouraged be the healthy habits I have established to date.

I hope I reach this point. I'm dreaming about digging food out of the trash every single night.

Good for you! just think of the new habits you're forming every time you have a positive experience that didn't require food.

I find it difficult now to not give into cravings.. I just don't overindulge.. but at work all I do is sit around (it's slow for the movie theater business until November) and I have to smell the popcorn.. I do have some, but without the butter and no where near the amount that I used to consume before!

I think it's important to remember that food is the one thing we need to survive but we have found ourselves in a place where food has become dangerously unhealthy to our bodies because we have overindulge for one reason or another and now is like starting from scratch learning new tools to help us become healthy, but it is groups like this then allow us to see that we are not the only one that struggles with food and weight.

One of the things I am fascinated by, is how little I'm eating/and still FUNCTIONING. I'd expected to be exhausted at the lower calorie count, but guess what, my body still runs when I'm not having gazillions of calories. Hmm, imagine that! :D I'm trying to drill that into my head during this honeymoon phase.

How much Protein do you manage to get a day? I'm not getting as much at I should, which I know is why I'm feeling fatigued. It's not like sleepy, it's that physical activity is so taxing. I took a shower the other day and then had to lay down to brush my teeth, it was pathetic. I go back to work on Saturday. I'm a nurse so it's 12 hour shifts and I just don't know how I'm going to do it. Makes me nervous to go back!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
