I'm very emotional and I feel like no one understands. I don't have anyone to talk to. I just want others opinions on what they would do if they were me...I had the Sleeve done 4 yrs ago. After having it I lost 117 pounds. Felt great was on cloud 9. Then got divorced and picked up drinking. Gained ALL of my weight back. Been and continue counseling. Have no desire to drink anymore. I was offered bypass by my surgeon. I am so scared of failing again. I have a 10 year old son, I'm scared of complications and being "rearranged". I'm worried because if I failed the first time, why wouldn't I fail the second time???? Please help. Would you do it?

I'm similar to you in that I had the sleeve and regained my weight due to inactivity because of an injury and problems with my thyroid...I've just had rny 3 weeks ago and it's definitely been hard going through the deprivation stages and just being on liquids..one thing I wasn't prepared for was the roller coaster emotions after the surgery..probably due to not taking meds (for depression) for a few days...

Don't think of it as a fail..sometimes in life things happen beyond our control and we do things to survive the situations we are going through..you with the drinking and me with the inactivity ..

I feel more determined this time and am grateful that I have a second chance..

Good luck with your decision but definitely make sure you are mentally prepared.

Good luck! ((hugs)) Not trying to talk you out of it, but just a thought. Why not try, I mean TRY like nobody's beeswax, to go back to your VSG post-surgery instructions: dense Protein first, drink your Water, take your Vitamins, weigh/measure/log everything, and start walking daily until you build back up to 45minutes a day (oh and stay OFF the "secret sauce" = booze)? What have you got to lose except 100lbs or so? Then you might be surprised that your old surgery is still intact and working for you? Just spitballing here...

I think I'd try Fluffychix's suggestion first. If a "hard reset" doesn't work, then you know you need to go to the next step. But above all, be kind to yourself. You didn't plan to have your life blow up on you, and maybe you coped the only way you knew how at the time. But now you're working hard at getting back on track. Bless you.

I am feeling so much of the same emotions as you. Nesides the drinking your story cpuld be mine. I not only regained but added an extra 100 pounds, and the feeling of "what if" and anticipating my failure almost feels like im signing my own death certificate. My depression was dark and now that I've been lifted out I feel like this 2nd chance really could be just that- a second chance! Let yourself forgive yourself. And then, let's do this again. I've never been obe to fall and stay down so today is not gonna be the start of that. Honey, you did a brave thing by posting this and believe it or not you spoke to something deep inside my spirit, it's almost like I needed to read this to remind me I AM NOT ALONE! And neither are you. The fear can be that light under our ***** that keeps us from giving up! Im here for tou if you ever need someone to talk to.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
