Latest Project - What's Yours?

Recommended Posts

I am over 4 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. My project during my 2nd and 3rd year post-op was to build an underground shelter. This year my wife wanted me to build a playhouse for the grandkids. I wasn't too keen on the idea. But on giving the matter some thought I decided to go ahead under 2 conditions. First - that is was a log cabin playhouse. I never built a log cabin, so it would be a new experience. Second - that the grandkids get involved in the construction. Building something from scratch is very valuable experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. They are rather young (11, 9, and 5) but its the process that matters. I must admit that I had to exert a lot of patients since it seem like it took them 200 strikes to drive in a nail when I could easily do it in 5. But that is the learning process. Then we started to work on the roof. My wife had a bad dream which scared her a lot. She visualize me falling to my death. I am approach age 70. It is only a playhouse and I still retain a strong sense of balance. Had to work through that. But this was the final result. I still need to ***** the logs (apply a special caulk to fill in the gap between the logs), but I have to wait 30 days for the stain on the logs to dry adequately.

I think there must be some automated PC correctness here. The word c-h-i-n-k was automatically replaced with *****. It is possible that the word may have negative connotations. But this is the correct word for the process. It is a verb not a noun.

First off, that cabin is awesome. When I was a young boy, my dad tried to show me so much that I had absolutely zero interest in. Now that I am an adult I really wish I had paid more attention. Luckily he is still around and I can gain a small amount of his wisdom. But it feels as though I will still have missed out on so much. So good on you for having that experience to share with the grand kids.

Secondly, yep.. PC correctness strikes again. I used the word r e t a r d in the definitive term; "delay or hold back in terms of progress" and it was replaced with "intellectually challenged" So the sentence read as follows:

Quote

Chewing food and spitting it out is just training for an eating disorder. Not to mention that it triggers the stomach to start producing more stomach acid that could lead to heart burn, or worse case scenario complicate and/or intellectually challenged the healing process.

Ugh.

WOW!! That looks AWESOME!!! Maybe you should start a business. My grandkids are too old for it but...if only!! Those memories will be with them forever. At least you got them involved. I remember my mom trying to teach me to cook. LOL I had not even a little interest!! I'm very sorry now I had to learn on my own with many trials and errors!! Just ask my hubby and my kids. My grandkids think their NANA and their PAPA can do anything!! Like we can walk on Water. lol

Just so you know I am Sherrie Scharbrough. My new Lap Top went gunny bagger on me and is now going to the manufacturers to be fixed. So I am using my old Lap Top with the name being Shedo82773. One in the same. LOL

Wow, that's some playhouse! You're so talented. :)

Since I'm a writer, my next project is my next book, but that seems to be the way it always goes. ;) When I finish this novel, my next project will be....my next book.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
