Cramping after eating?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed sometimes when I eat something, it will go down fine and then maybe a few bites in I start experiencing this horrible pain in my stomach, kind of like cramps and then after a minute they go away...

Is this because I may be eating too fast?

I don't ever feel nauseous or anything like that...just get this stabbing cramp feelings after a few bites...

I gotta learn to eat slower!

Chew chew chew! It's hard to remember to slow down and chew thoroughly but it really helps prevent the pain.

@shericrazyladyI eat to fart too...

I think my biggest hurdle right now is learning this slow down thing. I used to always be first one done at the table, and now I'm just hurting trying my best to keep pace. Not good. The mental is far greater struggle than anything physical for me...

LOL. I totally agree with you, not about the farting lol. I'm so used to eating fast while I'm at work on my lunch break but now it's like if I don't slow down or take smaller bites I get these terrible cramps that last a minute or two.

The mental aspect of this surgery has been the toughest for sure! I've also been stalled for a week and a half and struggle to drink enough fluids a day and I'm like on half liquid half soft food diet because I can barely eat anything so I don't get enough Protein in either.

ANDDD on top of it now that I'm back to work, my days are 12 hour days by the time I get home and walking is the LAST thing I want to do.

My energy level has been a little low and I'm feeling a little discouraged but I'm just trusting the process.

Quick question --- since you had surgery a week before me....are you still having any pulling sensation pain? Or feel any pain inside your abdomen? Even the slightest?

@sleevedshereen That pulling pain that shoots from your stomach to your shoulder left me by day 5 or 6. So no, if you are, hopefully that passes quickly for ya.

I also have a stupid high pain threshold so very little bothers me anymore... outside of feeling like I'm going to pass out if I don't eat properly...

I randomly get indigestion/rumble gut pain.. Which I'm not sure if thats what you have. But I chalk it up to my gut throwing a temper tantrum because of all the change...

That stall is real though. I think I read it has something to do with the body transitioning from the whey Protein to actual food protein and figuring out how to burn it properly... I don't know if that's real or not. But I had my stall break only a couple days ago. So don't worry too much about it.

@Mersh yeah I figured I'm not even a month out yet! lol my body will adjust and the surgery will work/help me. I just gotta get more Protein and Water in. This is definitely a challenge though. Eff the people that want to say this is taking the easy way out. We're strong as hell :1321_punch_tone2:

@sleevedshereen It gets easier for sure. I moved into my puree and some really soft foods earlier than my DR. had me set on due to low energy and me feeling extremely ready for the next phase. Glad I did. I'm able to eat cheese, deli meat (which is a staple meal for me these days. Or that Ricotta Bake or a Mex Bake. And now have zero issue hitting my Protein goals. (With the shake included). Water is a tough one. I've never been a sipper so training on that... I miss being able to regularly take in 3-4 liters a day, usually crushing lots in a short time. Gone are those days.

Good luck on your journey. Its not easy but it definitely is worth it.

I'm on my second day and the first day I got no liquids at all due to the fact my surgeon wanted to make sure there were no leeks. I feel like I have no idea how much Soup to eat or liquids to drink. I don't feel any diff than I did prior to the surgery. I immediately wanted candy which is weird because I never eat candy. My incision on my right side is giving me so much pain. Anyone else dealing with that?

@kajameetsworld I felt normal as well. It's weird but you will soon realize that life has indeed changed forever. Polysporin is awesome for those knife wounds.

I don't have any incisions on my right...mine are mainly on my left side of my abdomen but yeah you will feel a lot of pain for the first week/two. I'm still feeling some pain. Some take longer to heal then others....also its only your second day open. They just cut you in 5-6 different places and cut out most of your stomach...pain is expected lol :)

I know. I guess I'm freaking out because I'm usually so aware of my body. I've been dancing around trying to get the gas out of my stomach like a crazy person. It's starting to work . I'm also worried about dehydration so.l regardless of it hurts or not I will keep on sipping. Lol

@kajameetsworld22 well for me I was only getting about 40 oz of fluids the first week...if that...at my first follow up the doctor told me that it was enough to not get dehydrated. He told me not to worry about Protein as much as staying hydrated the first month (on liquid diet for a month post op) --- saw ppl were on pureed/soft foods by two weeks on here so I've slowly been nibbling to see how I react to it but for the most part I am drinking Water, Vitamin water zero, diet snapple and adding crystal light to my water. I switch it up throughout the day so I don't get sick of the liquids.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
