Before Photo's

Recommended Posts

I have seen lots of before and after pictures on the forum.

I just feel so disgusting I don't think I want to be reminded of how terrible I look and feel right now. Sometimes the feeling of the obesity is worse than the look.

I haven't let anyone takes pictures of me for years and years, and so I'm thnking, why now? Although I can see how you can be amazed at the distance you've come, when you have done the hard yards, do many of you want to be reminded of yourself at your worst? When you are at rock bottom?

I've done measurements, and they were shocking enough. I feel like to look back will just bring forth the feelings of now, the depression, the hopelessness, failure etc.

Am I alone?

I personally took "Before" pictues before I started my pre-op liquid diet a week ago. While I do think they are disgusting, I've heard that sometimes when people loose a lot of weight they look in the mirror and still see a fat person even when they're thin. I have a feeling I will need "Progression" pictures so I can physically see the changes that are happening. After all, I am from the "Show-Me State."

It's totally up to you, and I understand where you are coming from. Just remember though, if you don't take them you may wish you had someday and you won't be able to go back in time. But if you take them and decide you don't want to look at them you can just file them away and not look at them.

Good luck in your journey!

Come on take those before pictures...they'll be worth money some day! Remember you are never going back there again. This is not just another diet that you are going to fail. This is the real deal. I took tons of "before" pictures (like 200- no lie) because they are who I am- right now. I am smiling in every one of them. Don't you want that "OMG moment" when you lose your weight and find your "before" pictures and see how far you come. Your not a failure, because you did something big that will change your life. Enjoy who you are at every step of this journey, because there is no going backwards.

I didn't need to take any before pics. There are enough of them around with me in it for that! DH is president of our motorcycle chapter and we take pics on the monthly rides all the time. I'm in alot of them. I don't think I need any additional. I can't wait till next season and the new pics are being taken, then I will compare with this years, last years, and etc!!! Holy Smokes! Who's the chick on MY bike?????!!!! LMAO

Nope, I didnt take any.

And I did feel that posting befores and moaning about how disgusting I was at a BMI of 35 was not really very respectful of people who were in way worse trouble than I was.

I felt disgusting but I didnt feel the need to share that with everyone, lol.

Amy you crack me up!

I avoid camera's like the plaque. Living here in Central Pennsylvania I just tell people I am Amish! LOL

I took pictures, they're stored in a SECRET place on my hard drive. I took them in work type clothes, shorts/tank top, and underwear and bra. I look at them now and think, "hmmmm, yeah I know her very well." I'm not really having horribly negative thoughts, but I'm not posting them all over the net either! I do want a record of the "journey" though, for posterity.

I don't think I have ever avoided a camera! :biggrin1: "Cheese" is my middle name. My husband would say it was "ham", but no one asked him. Just think after I lose all my weight I am going to have to hire my own paparazzi to take my picture.

:funnypost:

Amy you are too funny! I've spent a good amount of time hiding from cameras recently, and the times I haven't managed to the results have not been appealing. I did however take some 'befores' prior to starting Optifast and will take some more before I head into hospital tomorrow. Like Holly I have carefully hidden them safely away. My reason was the same as luvmy3boyz, when I have lost weight previously I've struggled to see how I've changed in the mirror so having the evidence to compare will hopefully help my head to catch up with my new body :clap2:

I took before pictures too. I can't wait to see where I came from when I am where I want to be. Maybe someday I will show them to others, but not now.

I live in central PA too! My BMI is 42,but I don't show my weight, because I have a pear shaped body and always wear skirts. A lot of people say,"You don't look that fat". I am fat and I have backaches when I do exercise. My knees hurt when I stand too much.. etc. I hate it when people take my pictures. I will take some as soon as I get a date. I will get a call next week.

I did not take any pictures. I don't want to be reminded of that "fat self." I want to emerge into the me that is inside, but now will be seen on the outside too.

Hi Carrot,

How are you doing now, time is flicking by, and I see its five days for you.

Are you coping and feeling okay?

I started feeling a lot better yesterday. Then today I went back to work. I had to get up at 4:30. I got home from work 6 p.m. It was a long day and a bit much. The lack of nutrients due to being on a clear liquid diet this first week is getting to me. I started to get a little light headed, weak, and dizzy. Thursday after my post op appointment I can start drinking more liquids but with some volume and more nutrients. Thank goodness, I need some.

Amy - my old boss used to tell me before I enter a room, she hears a little voice yell, "It's Showtime" ;) I normally haven't shyed away from the camera and I think it's because I never realized how big I had become until after I would see the picture. I have lots of accidental "before" pictures and can't wait to show off my "afters."

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
