Revision from sleeve to Rny bc of gerd

Recommended Posts

I'm having the RNY on Sept. 25th..... originally, I was having the Sleeve, but after learning that GERD is a common side affect from it, I changed it to the RNY. I couldn't deal with acid reflex at all.
Sending positive thoughts your way! >>>>>>>>> ............ Deeme
im Sep 20, RYN too.

Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

I haven’t had mine yet, but my surgeon told me to refill my omeprazole for at least a month post op. He said by then, I shouldn’t have any residual effects/ shouldn’t need it. Sorry, I know I’m not super helpful as I haven’t had surgery yet but that’s what he advised me! So it sounds normal.

Did it go away? Mine did not. Going in on 12/1. I think mine may have something to do with my esophagus

I had a revision on 11/5 due to GERD and regain due to my thyroid. I noticed the difference immediately. However the past few days I noticed slight discomfort but nothing like before. I’m a little concerned because it’s been 3 weeks and I’m only down 13 pounds.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
