I've been feeling down for about a week now because I haven't been really losing much during my second week post op. I've been walking and getting as much liquid in as I can but I can't quite get in all 80g of Protein. Aside from that, anything I swallow causes really sharp pains in my stomach and esophagus so it makes me not want to eat anything but popsicles all day. The pains just become too much that I'll just have to lay down until they pass or everything comes back up. I'm really just discouraged at the moment and waiting for things to get better.

You are recuperating from a major surgery! Your guts have been cut out. (sorry) It will take a little while to heal, and you'll feel better. I was required 70 Protein at that time, but just did the best I could because it was hard. Just do your best and take time to heal. And contact your doctor if you continue this way. The esophagus hurting doesn't sound right to me.

@moniwood28

Have you tried different temps of liquids? Cold things felt like daggers to me at first, I had to drink warm fluids and get my Protein in with either room temp shakes or broth with Protein Powder.

Different people have different levels of pain after having a tube down their throat. Mine was sore for 2 weeks, at least it didn't feel normal.

Don't lose hope! I didn't lose weight for the first three weeks, primarily because I was hospitalized due to having acute pancreatitis, however, your body is getting used to the surgery. The liquids will get easier. Soups were the best for me, I loved mixing unflavored Protein powders in with soups to add in extra protein. It was tricky to do but it worked. Also, I wouldn't heavily blend things just yet. When you blend things, you are adding a lot of air in the liquid and that can upset your punch as well.

I was just where you are. Make sure that whatever you are consuming, you are taking it down easy, including your beverages. I know that cold Water was really hard for me, still is. Hot tea worked well.

Also, I got tired of the Protein Shakes so I started drinking Protein waters. P20, grape flavored are my favorite. My husband found them at Walmart for me.

Also maybe not eat popsicles. Do they have fake colors, fake sugars? Someone already mentioned they are so cold. I don't drink anything too cold. Find another comfort liquid. Room temp veg juice helps me, as well as slightly warm Bone Broth.

Please don't focus on weight loss for the first few weeks. It simply does not matter and honestly inevitably going to happen. First weeks are all about healing. Just heal. Get your Protein and Water. Go slow. Good luck and stay strong

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
