Just Starting This Journey

Recommended Posts

I'm a 32 single mom who has struggled with my weight since puberty. I have PCOS and am at my highest weight I've ever been. I've seen friends and even my mom have success with the sleeve and I decided that it was time. I'm tired of feeling held back and not able to enjoy doing things with my son that I want to. I want to do this while I'm still young and so is he.

I've had my first two appointments and met with the surgeon. Doing tests and have started the 6 month clock for insurance.

Anyone else just in the beginning?

Hey, I am in the beginning, too. I am scheduled for the weight loss seminar in Sept. I have spoken with my insurance co and as long as I meet their "strict guidelines" they will pay for 50% once my deductible has been met up. I am so hoping they will say that meet their guidelines..if I know I don't know who on earth would lol

I have been overweight my entire life. I'm 35 and married for almost 9 years but no children. My husband and I want to have children but at my current weight there is absolutely no way. I know at this point it's now or never..so (hopefully) it's now!!

I can't wait for this process to begin. I have been debating on doing this for years..I'm not sure why I waited so long but here I am! :)

I'm not at the beginning but 2/3 of the way through my required 6 month required pre-op work. I have my first meeting with the surgeon in September (he is going on a 3.5 week vacation...must be nice). Anyway, I just wanted to say I've actually enjoyed the monthly visits with the weight loss specialists MD, the nutritionist, psychologist and believe it or not the exercise physiologist. I'm learning a lot from all of them...well maybe not so much the MD. With their help I've already lost 20 pounds! I live in Michigan and Beaumont has a fantastic program that guides you through the entire process and beyond. I hope you have good support like that throughout your process.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
