Does anyone have problems with Absortion of SSRI with VSG and DS

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I had my original surgery RNY Dec 2009 which was a hard road when finding the right dose for my SSRI zoloft. We work it out but i felt like i lost my mind for a while. Now that I am having my revision VSG & DS Aug 9th 2017. My question is does anyone have or had problem with absorption of there SSRI like zoloft? The reason I am asking is my for the DS part of the surgery because Zoloft work by breaks down and absorbing in the intestine.

I am very nervous about the UP coming surgery because of that factor. Any information would help!

Thank you

Violet

Hello! So what I found out is that there might be a small less absorption than with my first surgery. I asked for the 25mg tab for after my surgery and I am on 225mg a day. I am able to take them since the surgery. All is well with my anxiety bit I will have to tell you the recovery is not easy for me because it was a revision for me. I would just make sure your Dr. Know that you may need the smaller mg so you don't have to crush them.. the only way I was able to handle the crushed was in sugar free pudding at the hospital...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
