Need advance tips for next June at a convention

Recommended Posts

Hello - by next June I will be a good 9 months out from surgery and able to eat a moderate diet, BUT I will be at a square dance convention in a Marriot w/o cooking facilities for 6 days, and the husband hate$ eating out. We will of course eat some meals out. But I have thought of a few things to take, but could use some ideas. (Hard boiled eggs, tuna packets, salad, yogurts) (don't say shakes please) We will be dancing our azzes off which is good.

Will the hotel have a small microwave, refrigerator and a coffee maker which will allow you to heat just Water? If there is no microwave or small refrigerator may be you could rent one for the days you will be there. If there is a refrigerator you could get milk, string cheese, crab meat and turkey sticks. The milk could be used to make Protein puddings. The coffee marker could be used to make protein high oatmeal, Soups, and some of the other high protein packaged foods like Sloppy Joe, Chili mix etc that this site sales in their store. Also some high Protein Bars and chips would be good.

Nine months from now you will probably be at your goal and will be able to eat a variety of good food items. With all the dancing you will be doing whatever you eat I am sure will be worked off. Good luck during these next 9 months.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
