First day of 12 day preop diet!

Recommended Posts

Hang in there! The first three days are the worst. You will be hangry. About day 4 you'll start to normalize, as much as you can on a liquid diet. SF Jello became my best friend!

Also, avoid watching food Network or Cooking Channel as they will drive you insane. When you start to crave food any find yourself in the kitchen get up and go for a walk. Do something else with your "free time" so that you don't eat mindlessly.

Good luck!

My surgery date is the 18th... I can only do shakes and 2 yogurts... no Jello, no nothing : (

Thanks for the encouragement!! I can already see the agitation soon to set in

At least you can have Protein Drinks and yogurt. I was on Clear Liquids and Protein Drink only for 2 weeks.

I am on day 10 of pre-op diet. Clear Liquids only for the last 3 days.

Yes I want to tear my hair out. It is not easy. I just keep telling myself that I can choose to break the diet anytime I want - BUT then I have to cancel or postpone my surgery. So following the diet is MY CHOICE! Thinking of it this way feels more empowering. Having a choice is empowering.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
