I had the RNY 16 yrs ago and lost 140 lbs. I started out at 388 lbs and now weigh 270 as I have gained about 30 lbs back. I never reached my goal weight and am struggling to lose any more. I am considering having a revision to the duodenal switch. Has anyone had this done? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you spoken to a surgeon? A DS after RNY is a crazy-complicated procedure.

If your only real problem is the # on the scale, then it's time to take a long, hard look at your diet/exercise habits. If getting to a lower weight is of great importance to you, then be willing to make dramatic, lifelong changes to your diet.

Not knowing what your habits are now, I can't make specific recommendations.

You can talk to a surgeon about tweaking your bypass, but for the most part, the work is yours to do.

TDS: Dr Ayoola (Dallas) is fantastic and does revision surgeries. I did not have the RNY but some of his patients have -- give his office a call. It can't hurt to speak with professionals. People from all over the country come to him because he is just that excellent of a surgeon!

I went to Dr. Ayoola originally, really loved him. But his office staff was lacking and honestly had me on the run around. (maybe things have changed- my first visit with him was Oct. 20. 2016) Pushed back my process a bit- I found Dr. Smith in Fort worth - I had the revision completed on 6/28 and he was wonderful and I cannot speak any higher of his staff.

Sounds like you've made the right decision. Congratulations!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
