Dime sized pieces for the rest of our lives?...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone...

Just a silly question...Is it so that we will be cutting our food in dime sized pieces for the rest of our lives?...Maybe later once the pouch is somewhat a little bigger, do we still have to eat such small pieces of food...Just wondering...

Nope. After the first six weeks, I was no longer cutting food into small pieces.

I am 27 months out (2 years & 3 months) and my sleeve's capacity has greatly increased since those early days. I can easily tolerate three pieces of chicken (2 drumsticks and 1 thigh), although I opt for smaller portions. The days of getting full off a few bites of food will be temporary for most people.

Good luck to you. :)

I never really cut my food into tiny pieces but then I haven't tried steak yet and I'm 5 months post op. I really just practiced chewing my food thoroughly. I started doing that pre op when I learned my surgery date. I was surprised how little I chewed before surgery. Crazy.

1 1/2 years post op and to this day I still follow many of the skills I was taught to apply to be a mindful eating. I continue to use a small lunch plate for all my meals, I cut my pieces of meat into the size of a nickle, (so yes it is a bit bigger now) lay my fork down between each bite, chew, chew, chew again until it is almost liquid and don't drink anything during the meal. I see no reason to go back to eating bigger pieces of food.

No.

If you saw me eat you would never know I had WLS. At all.

I never cut dime size pieces, I don't even have the patience for that at all.

I don't even cut them that small. They're smaller bites than I used to take, but definitely not dime sized.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
