What does it feel to be "full"

Recommended Posts

I was banded several years & knew what me "full" feeling was (tightening in the chest). I know I'm 7 days PreOp of the revision to DS. So, my neighbor brought me some beef stew "juice". I had my 2 oz cup worth. But I feel kinda bloated. Guess I'm not familiar with new signs from my body.

For me, it feels like reflux (GERD). like I want to "regurgitate" my food (not vomit, regurgitate, like going to burp up food rather than have strong stomach contractions and vomit). Eating until you're full means eating too much.. it's a sign that one should intake less. Unfortunately with different stomach sizes, bougie size, food type, metabolisms, etc. there's no way to know in general how much is too much, it's something you learn along the way.

So very true. At this stage of the game I don't think you should worry about what full feels like, just follow the doctors orders, eat and drink very slowly, and stop eating/drinking when you feel any sensations in your stomach, then wait and make sure it is not pain before continuing. We all have different experiences after WLS so there really isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to your question. Just go slow and aim for your macro and Water goals!

After the 2oz of the beef stew "soup", I think it was just a lot of gas that I didn't expect! I have been on such a bland diet & then introduced something new with spices. Boy, I sure did some walking, sitting on balance ball, & GasX to try to get the uncomfortable feeling to go away! About an hour later I was relieved from the bloat/pain feelings. [emoji28]

Haha, glad to hear you are feeling better. This is the first of many experiences that will help you sort out what it feels like to you to be 'full'.

It took me a while to figure out what being hungry or full felt like. It's confusing. I'm only one month post-op, so I'm still trying to figure this out, but when I'm full, I usually hiccup and get a stabbing feeling in my new stomach. There's also a feeling my food might come up if I eat one more bite. Granted, i only eat about 4 oz of food right now. The first few weeks are the hardest.

Thanks for the info. I just had my surgery two days ago and I am trying to learn how far to go as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
