Write EVERYTHING down. Track EVERYTHING. You'll know where you're going wrong and writing everything down will make you feel accountable to yourself.

Many of us have to go on a liquid diet for preop liver shrinking purposes. Maybe you can try that? Keep your calories to under 1000. 3-4 weeks of a liquid diet will knock off that 15lbs easily (don't worry about losing "too much")

Another option is stick with a low fat/low carb diet. Lean meats and salads with fat free dressings. Low sodium v8.

Yes, it's hard, but after surgery, you'll be closer to goal, and you'll be more prepared for the restrictive postop diet.

Or do 2 Protein Shakes for lunch and Breakfast and a low carb salad/lean Protein dinner. Drink 64 oz of Water, cut out all sodas, juice, any drink w calories. If you get crazy hungry try hot tea or chicken broth or sugar free popsicles or Jello.

Please don't quit! You can do this!

The worst thing that can happen right now, is that you dont meet the weight requirement and your approval gets pushed back a little. But if that's what needs to happen in order to get you to that initial goal, think of it as a blessing. You'll need to be in the right frame of mind when you go into the Op because when you come out, you'll need to rewire that brain.

I am in the very same boat as you; I have 15 lbs to lose in 6 weeks. Go low carb, eat more Protein and really focus on tracking your intake (MyFitnessPal is great) . Just power through it now because what waits for you at the end of these 15 lbs is a new start to your new life.

I have faith in you! Good Luck!

I'd recommend getting your calories to about 1200, your carbs below 20, drink at least 64 oz of Water, and to track everything that you eat or drink. Your going to have to do many of these things post-op if you want to be successful, so it is good to get started now (and it will help you to lose the pre-op weight you need to lose, too).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
