also improper placement at the time of surgery has been an issue. violent, repeated vomiting. those are the two main causes.

my dr. stitches the band in place to help with that yes...but I dont know if all do...good question though....I have one...what if you have the flu or something and u are sick...can it happen if you vomit from that too? I was sick awhile back and was vomiting, not excessively but I was, and was worried about that....but while I was sick I wasnt eating anything so I didnt know if I was still at risk??????

Yep. Repeated vomiting, no matter why or where it started can possibly have the band slip. All bandsters should really keep some type of anti-nausea prescription on hand in the event they get a bug, to help limit the vomiting as much as possible. If you've had no problems, I wouldn't worry. Some have gone to the hospital with severe vomiting/flu etc only to find that their band did indeed slip which causes more vomiting. In that situation, it would be hard to tell which came first, but if there is a persistent vomiting this could definitely be a danger.

It is a good precaution, if you feel you have contracted a virus or food poisoning to have your band un-filled to help prevent slippage also.

Katie, I'm glad Dr. Allen assisted in the placement of my band. He must be pretty good to be the proctor for Inmed. He was also there for the repair of my haital hernia.

Didn't get a chance to meet him, but I'm glad he was there.

OH Pat I'm so glad everything went well. He is a wonderful doctor, will you be seeing him for fills or will you go to your dr. in VA?? If you dont want to talk publicly about it shoot me a pm but I'm soooo glad everything went well. I remembered you on DEC 6th...my mom is a patient of Dr. A's also and I told her about your surgery, and we both said prayers for you that day and following ;) Let me know how you are doing and I hope to talk to you soon!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
