Did anyone HATE water post op?

Recommended Posts

I was never a big Water drinker, but since my surgery (2 days ago) I can't even tbink about drinking it. Crystal light is a little better. I think I'm going to talk to the visiting nurse about Powerade 0 tom. I am not drinking much at all. broth, popsicles, yogurt, pudding all go in fine, but liquids...no way! I also read that ppl use gas x strips, I can't find them ANYWHERE, are the desolving ones ok?

Try different types of Water (bottles, tap) and different temperatures (hot, ice). I couldn't do our tap water (we are on well, no chlorine just heavy) but could do bottled water. Some people can only do hot or ice

There's nothing that comes even remotely close to the Water I've drank pre and post-op. Water is great. I don't need to make myself like it either.

Of course, sometimes I want things with taste.. that's what smoothies or milk with a dab of chocolate Syrup is for.

Maybe try adding Mio to your Water. It's a sugar free flavor enhancer. I'm pre-op still, but I use Mio a lot. I would assume you could use it post op. Plus there are a ton of flavor options. Hope this helps

The first couple of daysplain Water made me nauseous. Still not great but getting better. Mio drops helped, I can get all my fluids in now. , DR said I could use Vitamin water zero, mio, Isopure, Decaf tea. The DR is more concerned about staying hydrated at this point. Use whatever you need to keep hydrated

I hated Water post-op, it made me feel sick. It took about six weeks of pushing through to get to the point where it did not bother me anymore and has been fine since.

I've been using crystal light, but even that is hard. I think I'm going to ask about Powerade. I'm starting to feel weak, I assume from not drinking

Well popcicles are probably a good bet for you then, as they are just liquids in a frozen form. You could freeze your crystal light into popcicles.

I have been doing better today. I have been forcing the Water, and I started a Protein Shake. It might take me a long time, but I'll get it down!!!

I typically loved Water, but have had some issues since VSG on 12/19/16. I actually read something about "water nausea" and I believe that many of us have this but don't know it. Stay hydrated, vary what you drink. Keep pushing!!! It's worth it.

Pre-surgery, I was a Water guzzler. Loved the stuff. Post surgery, it was so hard to drink and it made me feel sick for a long time. I could only drink it if it had a little crystal light or something, which was weird because I never drank flavored water before surgery because I didn't care for it and didn't find it quenched my thirst. I also started drinking hot tea and still drink a lot of it. Just THIS WEEK (I'm 9 months out) I am finding I can drink a glass of water and it finally tastes delicious again and I can drink it almost as fast as I could pre-surgery. I could not be happier!!

Also, don't be like me: I had 2 uti's over the winter because I wasn't drinking enough. Even if you don't want it, you still need it. Find ways to get it down.

I believe it. Just thinking about it makes nauseaus. I got some Powerade 0 just waiting for it to get cold. This is HARD! I think I was cocky before surgery, thinking I can do it all with no problems, boy was i wrong!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
