Hi folks, i was banded on wed 3rd of oct. Ive been in agony since i got home. ive only consumed Water but every evening it comes back up. Im having alot chest pain but the gas pains are becoming totally unbareable. im just sipping Water - so slow infact that i only get through a glass a day. Is it normal to experience such bad gas without consuming any food and having very little water ? im worried i'll become dehydrated

;i havent had more than 2 or 3 hrs sleep any night and im exhausted and dilerious. Its very painfull to stand, walk, sit or laydown.

When i was discharged I was given Solpodine as pain relief (Might as well be taking gelly Beans !) and Diafine as an anti-inflamitory and Augmenten as an antibiotic. To date i have taken only one of all of these tablets. They hurt my tummy so much i cried for 4hrs (im sure my Fiance thought i was having some sort of metal break down

I dont mean to moan.. (its crazy to say but im still glad i had the op) i think im just looking for reassurance that this will get better. Otherwise i might just go completely insane. (if i havent already from lack of sleep)

any advice would be greatly appricated.

Thanks

3na

I was banded on the 3rd and I had a pain as well, but nothing to the extent of what you are talking about. If you are not consuming Water you need to get to a doctor or hospital to get some fluids in you! You wont get better if you are dehydrated, and they can give you something more suitable for the pain and something to help you rest. This doesn't sound like a good situation.

Hello!

If you are not able to keep down water and are only able to get one glass in a day you are most likely already dehydrated - which will make it even harder for you to keep things down. You need to call your surgeon or go to the ER right away and let them know what is going on. Gas pain is one thing, but being unable to swallow is something different altogether. Also, see if they will give you liquid or chewable medications as opposed to the pills.

From what I have experienced and read, what is happening to you is not uncommon, but it is not the way things are supposed to be either. Good Luck!

I was banded 9/20/07 and i was the exact same way. I kept thinking you want me to put something in my body, if i can not handle Water, i know i can not handle anything else. On the 7th day, i decided to eat a bit of applesauce and man did it ever make a differance. I felt so much better, i think i was starving and did not know it. There were days that i could not even get a full cup of liquids down in the whole 24 hour period. It does get better....promise.

Thanks so much for the advice folks.

I'll try what you suggested and have little bit of mushy food tomorrow and see how i get on. If that doesnt work i think i'll have to haul myself to my doc.

Thanks again,

3na

Hi iwas banded on sept 24 2 weeks ago today and though its been rough nothing like you have said I think you must be really swollen for Water not to stay down call your Dr. now

Please don't hesitate to talk to your doctor if you don't feel better tomorrow. I think you've waited long enough, and you really don't want to get any more dehydrated than you probably already are.

Check with your surgeon asap. Sounds similar to what I went through...was banded on 9/21...two days later couldn't get a teaspoon of liquid down....went back to surgeon next day...x-rayed my swallowing and here my esophagus had swollen....was admitted for 1-1/2 days to get IVs for dehydration, plus steroids for reducing the swelling...cleared up very quickly and am much better.....

Good luck !

If you are not supposed to be eating mushies yet, do NOT eat some because someone here said to, please!

You absolutely need to call your doctor ASAP and let them know what is going on. Stress to them you cannot keep Water down! How many times a day do you urinate and what does it look like? If it is dark amber in color you are definitely way dehydrated. Please don't take advice here as medical advice. As another poster said what is happening to you is not what is the norm, but it does happen. And when it does, those folks need to see their surgeon or an ER.

BTW, mushy food will not rehydrate you. If you have slipped or are too swollen still (perhaps the small band was placed and you were on the edge of needing the larger one), then food isn't going to help.

Please keep us updated.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
