Surgery for Hiatal Hernia, Gallbladder and Gastric sleeve at one time

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever had hiatal hernia, gallbladder and gastric sleeve at the same time? Not sure I am ready for everything at once but do not want to have another surgery in a year or so.

My hubby had a failed attempt of Lap Band to RNY. He did haave his gallbladder and the Lap Band removed at the same time. But..he didn't fair so well due to Abcesses and Infection. Which by no means is the normal situation. I think removal of the gallbladder at the same time is pretty normal. Some Surgeon's remove the gallbladder as a precaution. Some people that lose their weight fast seems that gallbladder trouble happens to the. I don't know which catagory you fall in but that darn gallbladder pain is one of the worst pains. Good Luck and keep us posted on your journey.

I did on Jan 26, 2016. I have a blog on BP.

Here are 2 postings about my 3 procedure surgery and 6 weeks post op. I also included a link to the beginning of the blog I started in 2008 when I first tried to get the lap band procedure.

I hope the 2 posting of the 3 procedure will help you. Please keep in mind my age and physical disability. Each person surgeries and recovery plan will be different. I am so glad I finally had the sleeve as now I am down to 215 and have maintained that weight for about 6 months. In 10 days I will be have a medically needed breast reduction and free nipple graft provided they don't cancel that surgery again like they did in March. I suppose while I am recovering from that surgery would be a good time to catch up on this blog as I haven't written anything since Dec 2016.

I had a giant hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as my gastric bypass. My gallbladder came out several years ago, so that wasn't a problem.

I'd do them all at once if I were you. Lots of people have gallbladder problems after WLS, so you'll head that off at the pass. And for me, the hernia was the main reason for my surgery, and the gastric bypass was easy to do at the same time. The hiatal repair was the hardest part of my recovery. It hurt to breathe fully for the first week or so, and get comfortable. Eventually the swelling went down, the pain went away, and I feel better than ever now.

I had an umbilical hernia repaired and my gallbladder removed at the same time as my RNY surgery. I think I may have had a little additional pain from the gall bladder removal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
