I had weight loss surgery in 2003 since then I have had majior complications. I now am unable to eat or drink enough and absorb it to keep me alive. So I have a port a cath implanted in my chest that I get hydration and TPN ( food ) from at night. I'm 38 and they just told me yesterday I am out of options and this will be my normal. That would be okay if the tpn didn't attack you over and now put me at stage 3 liver fibrosis. I feel so defeated physically and psychologically. Anyone else experiencing anything similar!?! I'm in rough spot andcould sure use some advice!

There must be some underlying cause as to why you needed to be fed intravenously in the first place.

Still, sorry to hear about that.. I've never heard of this before your post, it seems extremely rare if caused by the surgery.

Apparently one of the side effects of this is liver disease, so I hope they have you on some type of anti-fibrotic medication to slow the progression into cirrhosis -- I heard some are coming down the line. Initially I was going to be involved in trials in a few years but my liver has healed substantially making it moot.

I was TPN for a bit but that was due to other circumstances. I do have problems but nowhere near as tough. I don't know what to tell you.

WOW!! That is a lot to handle!!! So sorry. I know that isn't much but I truly am sorry. You are a young person to have to face this. I hope you have someone to help you and even just be there for you. HUGS I wish I had more to offer but at least know I care about you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
