Hey guys. I was raised to eat everything on my plate. We could not leave the table until our plates were clean no matter what time it was. I feel guilty leaving anything on my plate. I bought a child's plate and silverware to help. It's still hard.

Also I have had so many problems since my RNY Gastric Bypass on 4/19/17. I have just been cleared for regular food. What are some recipes and ideas for still some soft food during the transition to regular food. I can feel my stomach is still sensitive. I can feel it. Any help would be great. Thx.

I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as steak and chicken. These also added more flavor to the meal. So there is no reason to rush the transition to harder foods. I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article about my experiences with gastric bypass surgery. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

We had surgery around the same time. I relied on refried Beans with a bit of shredded parm on top. That was a staple until I could tolerate more dense foods. Little by little, one food at a time. Also ate cottage cheese regularly. Still do. I find that in the morning I still can't stomach anything too solid, so usually have yogurt (plain Greek) or cottage cheese. Later on, you can add some peach or pear to those.

Learning new proper portion sizes takes time. You are on the right track using smaller dishes and utensils. I have to measure everything because I have no sense of what 3-4 ounces of food looks like. I can usually eat about 3 ounces at a time. Like you, I was raised to believe that wasting food is a sin. I try very hard to make only what I can eat.
It does get easier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
